Meet the Author

Rita Herron wrote her first mystery novel when she was 12 years old, but she grew up in a small Southern town (in a low-income family) and didn't think "real" people became writers. So it wasn't until her midlife crisis years later that she actually pursued publication.

Before she put pen to paper, she taught kindergarten for 10 years. Finger painting, puppet shows, and storytelling with imaginative five-year-olds made her yearn to do more with her creative edge, and she began by writing children's stories. Using a variety of props, she performed stories for kids at bookstores, libraries, and schools.

When summer came, she was bombarded with three bored kids of her own (and a house full of pets). In a desperate attempt to keep her own children occupied and maintain her sanity, she searched for a book on summer activities for kids. The bookstores were lacking, so she wrote it herself! Her summer project turned into her first book, entitled Surviving Summers with Kids: Fun Filled Activities for All.

Once Rita read her first romance novel, she was hooked. So she told her family she was leaving the finger painting, the puppets, and the minivan behind, to write adult fiction. Since then she has sold 12 books, and recently won the Maggie Award for her 1999 Harlequin Intrigue title, Her Eyewitness.

Rita loves to hear from fans—you can contact her or check updates on titles at suspense.net/rita-herron.

    Depressing

The whole thing is depressing. The hero is good guy but he all he does is ride the self pity train to the very last page. Heroine is good. But everyone around her just does worships her so much they can't even be around her.

    A ripoff and possible plagiarsm

The Grave Digger? A serial killer who buries victims alive? I saw this done on the TV series Bones long before this book came out. Same name for killer, same method of killing. Sees to me that this is plagiarism. I won't condone this by reading it. The review itself was enough to discount it as a possible read.

An exhilarating police procedural romantic suspense tale

Four years ago in Buford, Georgia, the Grave Digger serial killer buried Lisa Langley alive however, unlike his four previous victims, FBI Special Agent Brad Booker and his partner Ethan Manning arrive in time to save her life. The culprit William White was caught and convicted. Nine months later he was killed in a prison fight.------ Lisa relocated to Ellijay, Georgia to start over under the name Long as a preschool teacher. Brad who was halfway in love with her, kept an eye on Lisa from a distance as he assumes she blames him for her near death.------ However, a new homicide occurs that has all the MO of the Grave Digger except the victim is buried alive with a cross instead of a white rose. Brad and Ethan investigate the copy cat murderer with the former vowing nothing will happen to Lisa this time as he knows he still loves her and will die to keep her safe.------ IN A HEARTBEAT is an exhilarating police procedural romantic suspense that moves rather quickly once the second wave of murders occurs and never loses a beat until the final confrontation. Brad is a fascinating character who blames himself for Lisa¿s near death experience though he saved her life. The final spin seems stretched though the evidence goes to the heart of the copy cat crimes fans will appreciate this tense thriller wondering whether history will repeat itself except with a different ending.----- Harriet Klausner
