Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Daniel R. Bronfin, M.D.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This book provides one-page summaries of the most common signs and symptoms in pediatrics. It is the first pediatric book in the In a Page series.
Purpose: The authors strive to create a handbook of differential diagnoses in an easily accessible format that can be used effectively in clinical settings and for independent study. This thorough, though not exhaustive, quick summary of common presenting problems in children is a useful resource for patient care and teaching.
Audience: The book is written primarily for medical students, residents, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who provide care for children.
Features: The book is organized by organ system with additional chapters on vital signs, growth and development and lab results. Each chapter has common signs and symptoms presented in a one page format. Each page is organized into a brief introduction, differential diagnosis, workup and diagnosis, and treatment sections.
Assessment: This book will be most useful for students and residents in pediatrics. It is helpful as a first reference when investigating a patient's presenting sign or symptom. The information and presentation of this book would be particularly useful in PDA format.
