Booknews
This, the inaugural volume of a projected new series, honors Mel Kranzberg, founding father of the Society for the History of Technology and for many years editor of its journal, Technology & culture. Contains fourteen essays (plus other material), each of which promotes the view (surely corect!) that the history of technology can be correctly/usefully understood only in the interactive context provided by parallel developments in science and society. The essays are highly varied so far as concerns their specific subject matter, but are uniformly interesting and authoritative. That fresh air is blowing in this field, an dyielding insights of general historiographic interest, is due in substantial part of Kranzberg, whose influence can be detected on virtually every page of this attractively produced volume.
