If you are going to Japan for a week or less, this is the package to buy! I listened to the CD for a half hour on the way to work and back home every day for three weeks (about 8 hours total). When I got to Tokyo, I was able to go through customs, get currency exchanges, but the bus ticket, check into the hotel, order all the meals, get taxi and subway instructions, and check into the office and introduce everyone entirely in Japanese. My co-workers have since borrowed my copy, and I went on to pick up the French, Italian and German version to use in my business travels there. I have tried several other CD based packages, and most have thousands of words and phrases you will never need for business or vacation travel (like, "I went to the bakery yesterday.") My hosts in those countries were pleased that I had taken the effort to learn some of their language, and seemed much more patient with me than those who only spoke english. Learning the phrases I did helped understand conversations I heard much easier, even with words I hadn't learned. The CD and booklet are broken into short, reasonable sections covering greetings, numbers, money, at the hotel, restaurant, etc. I highly recommend this as a starting point for learning any language. Was this review helpful?
