More About This Book

Overview

Led by Commander Owen McClaren, the TNS Aurora is embarked on an extended survey mission, searching for new worlds that could support human life. Drawn to an uncharted star system by the discovery of potentially habitable planets, the crew of the Aurora discovers something entirely unexpected: the planets are already inhabited, but not by humans. Approached by gigantic alien starships, Aurora's crew makes ready for humanity's very first contact with another sentient race.

But nothing could prepare them for what fate has in store. For they have entered the domain of the Kreelan Empire, which has waited thousands of years to find another spacefaring race against which to wage war to honor their Empress. With all but one of the crew killed in bloody close combat, the aliens send Aurora home bearing the sole survivor: the Messenger, a young crewman who carries with him an alien artifact that is humanity's only sign of how much time remains until they are plunged into an interstellar war...

    I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

I loved this book! I can't wait to read the next two in the series. If you like sci-fi/fantasy you will enjoy this book! I bought this book on Tuesday afternoon and finished it Wednesday night, only put it down cause I had to work. If you enjoyed Avatar and the Ender's Game series, then you will like this story. I will be reading more by Michael Hicks.

Good but didnt know about the sex

This was a good story. Kind of predictable. I have only read the first one in the series and I probably won't read the others. I was very surprised at the sex scenes and references. I didn't need those. Cliche for a sci fi story to have a human male having sex with an alien woman. Guess I won't be giving this book to my young teen aged daughter to read!

    Characters you can't forget.

The author's gift is in creating SciFi worlds but grounding the story in the inter-dynamics of the characters. Hicks does such a good job in the characterizations of the main characters that they didn't leave me even when I wasn't reading the books. About midway through the series, the characters and story began to haunt me (in a good way). This is a very good series that I would recommend not only to SciFi junkies, but also to those who haven't read the genre before. It's well written with a very good pace. I read all three books within a week. Strongly recommended.

    Highly Recommended!

The heroic travails of the boy to manhood on an alien world with the cultural clashes he and the aliens who abducted him have to face are astonishing. We can't forget the importance of the library to his slave farm existence, not the sacrifice made to help his survival from his devastated homeworld. The alien leaders choices may come to haunt his race or the knowledge gained by the protagonist may spell either doom or understanding. Corporate greed as depicted in the beginning of book toward involuntary slavery of children is horrific. This series need to be read in sequence.

The authors trilogy deserves more than five stars

I also bought all the other books but was a bit pput off by all the long fighting scenes. In all his books the characters are well ddeveloped and the scenery draws one right in. I am so looking forward to a book about the peace between the two planets and more about Reza s son.

"All is fair in love and war." Yeah, right!

A compelling tale of a young boy who's used to pain and horror. Then he is captured by an alien race, one that he has a reasonable grudge considering their the enemy that pretty much too every thing or one he care about from him. He stays in this alien world for a surprising long while. In time he is no longer an outsider and the world is not so alien and soon as some of the aliens would not like to admit is basically one of them. But nothing's fine and dandy and has to make a most difficult choice between love and honor.

    Great read

Story pulled me in right away. Characters were interesting and I coundnt wait to find outwhat happens next. I will buy the rest in the first series to see if the writing/storyline continues to keep me interested before purchasing the second trilogy.
