Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
In His Own Write features the same sort of surreal turns of phrase that insinuated themselves into late-period Beatles classics such as ‘Come Together’ and ‘Strawberry Fields Forever.’”

San Francisco Chronicle

“Worth the attention of anyone who fears for the impoverishment of the English language and the British imagination.”

The Times Literary Supplement

“[Features] a wit and love of words that recall[s] Joyce and fanciful drawings some compare to Thurber.”

The Sunday Times

“Bewitching.”

USA Today

“Lennon's marvelously clever In His Own Write was the surprise literary sensation of 1964....you get Lennon's biting humor and brilliant puns: Lewis Carroll as rock star.”

This truely shows that you don't have to be serious all the time. John's witty misspellings make it very difficult (but hilarious, mind you) to attempt to read aloud and his pictures really fit the over all style and feel of the entire book. Both "A Spaniard in the Works," and "In his Own Write," give us a bit of insight into the mind of the Dream Weaver, not to mention that the short-story form of all of his pieces are easy to distinguish and discuss. Overall, an absolutely wonderful book, whether you like the Beatles or not.

I really liked this book a great deal. It showcases very well John Lennon's wit and artisitc sense. It makes me wonder what he would have gone on to do in the art world had his life not been tragically cut short. For anyone who wants to know what Lennon was like, this is the place to start.
