Overview

When pawn broker Abby Kirkwood discovers the evidence of a chilling drug cartel hit on one of the video cameras hocked in her store, she turns to the only man she can trust—Jack Connolly.

The smolderingly sexy former Marine runs a successful gym down the street and coaches her brother's special needs baseball team. He's the one man who is always there when she needs him. If anyone can protect her family, it's commanding, capable Jack.

The moment he learns someone is threatening Abby and her brother, Jack sees red. To save the woman he's secretly loved for years, he'll do whatever it takes, even if it means facing off with a Mexican drug cartel and making deals with the same Albanian mob outfit that tried to ruin his family.

He finally has sweet, feisty Abby right where she was always meant to be—writhing with pleasure in his bed and safely sheltered in his arms. The vicious cartel assassin hot on her heels has no idea what he's up against.

The Connolly brothers are standing strong together—and no one touches their family.

Meet the Author

When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy four-year-old, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.

I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego--Lolita Lopez--who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.

    My rating:  3 of 5 ¿¿

After the death of her grandfather, Abby Kirkwood was left the care of her younger brother and the family pawn shop. When her shop is broken into for the second time, she starts suspecting these were not simple break ins. Her concern for her brother her highest priority, she ends up discussing her troubles with his baseball coach and the owner of the gym where he likes to hang out. Jack Connolly also happens to be the man who has had her eye for years.

When former Marine and gym owner, Jack Connolly gets wind of the potential threat to Abby, he makes quick work of ensuring she is under his protection. And when they discover this isn't a simple case of neighborhood gangs vying for territory, but a much larger game involving the Russian mob and a Mexican cartel, he is not willing to let her out of his sight at all.

Jack has been in love with Abby for years, but their timing always seemed to be off. This time,  however, he wasn't going to let anymore time go wasted, and no one was going to lay a hand on his woman or her brother.

    *****

Action galore!! Second book in the Fighting Connollys series and again we have involvement of the mob, the cartel, this time an MC and more criminal involvement than you can imagine.

Also once again a case of insta love, where there really isn't any build up of a relationship, because that apparently has already happened off-scene. Here I am afraid I couldn't pick up on the chemistry. Even though the love scenes are steamy in description, they left me fairly unmoved.

So much goes on in this story, it is actually difficult to keep track of everything. The names, the connections, the enemies, who hates who and why.....it all becomes too much to retain and it is too bad, because I love the idea of the plot!! If half the complexities around the plot where cut away, and deepened out a bit better, I would probably have enjoyed it so much more. Instead, it felt rather choppy and hurried, trying to cram as much information in relatively few pages.

Ms. Rivera doesn't seem to have a problem to keep all her strings well in hand though..... There is some overflow from the first book into this one, and already we can see the beginnings of what I am sure will be the next brother to fall victim to love.

¿Spicy love against the underbelly of Houston.¿

3.75 stars:  IN JACK¿S ARMS is the second instalment in Roxie Ri

3.75 stars:  IN JACK’S ARMS is the second instalment in Roxie Rivera’s contemporary, adult, erotic Fighting Connollys Trilogy.  The Fighting Connollys is a spin-off series from Roxie’s ‘Her Russian Protector’ series and focuses on the Connolly brothers-three former Marines and the women they love. You do not have to read Her Russian Protectors to follow the Fighting Connollys.  Some of the characters and premises from the previous series overlap and carry over into the Fighting Connollys.  This is Abby Kirkwood and Jack Connelly’s story.
The premise focuses on a robbery, a series of threats and a number of questionable sales at the family run pawn shop owned by Abby Kirkwood. Digging further into the problem Abby will find herself caught in a war between the Albanian mob and a Mexican drug cartel who are willing to take down anyone standing in their way.  Enter Jack Connolly-the man who would die to protect Abby and her younger brother Mattie. When a once trusted employee is caught between family and the law
The relationship between Abby and Jack evolves from friends to lovers.  For a number of years, Abby and Jack have been dancing around one another much to Jack’s dismay. But Abby has been preoccupied trying to keep her grandfather’s business afloat while raising her mentally handicapped brother.  When the realization finally hits, Abby knows that she has lost her heart to Jack and that he may just be the one. The sex scenes are steamy and the relationship is sensual and hot.
The secondary characters are colorful and many from Her Russian Protector series.  From the Mexican drug cartel to the Russian and Albanian mob, The Fighting Connollys is a series of action, suspense and romantic relationships between the rich and powerful in a world we only read about in the news.

    What an amazing story!

While I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Fighting Connollys – In Kelly’s Corner, there was just something about Jack’s book that pulled at my heartstrings and touched me soul deep.
Maybe because the foundation for the Connolly brothers background was already revealed in the first book; IN JACK’S ARMS is actually a shorter story than Kelly’s, but believe me, it packs an immense punch nonetheless.
With the usual suspects playing a prominent part from the seedy and ruthless world of mobsters, drug cartels and hit men, there is never a dull moment and very little time to take a breath, so this is definitely a one sitting read!
My praise for Ms Rivera’s books now extends to this fabulous series too, and I now find myself as impatient for Finn’s story, as I always am for the next in the Russian Protectors!

Roxie Rivera is the REAL deal

Discovered her late last fall from her Russian Protector Series (MUST READ) and have followed her to the this one which has a connection to the Russian series... LOVE THIS AUTHOR! I am not one to give away a lot of plot or context but if you want a story that gives you insight into the characters, how they think and especially how deeply they love and what they will do to protect that love then this is the author for you. I am officially a super fan!

    Fortune favors the bold.

That's what ex-Marine Jack Connolly's tattoo says and after years of waiting to finally make a move on the girl he's secretly loved since they first met, that boldness pays off. But Abby's pawn shop suddenly becomes ground zero for a possible gang/cartel/mob showdown...and what's a Marine to do but stay faithful to the girl he's dreamed of and do whatever it takes to keep her and her brother safe. The second in the Fighting Connolly series and a spin-off of the excellent Her Russian Protector series, In Jack's Arms lives up to the continuing action packed and steamy look at love on the meaner streets of Houston...and sets up the final brother Finn's story due in mid-March and the promise of several more stories featuring the bad boy Albanians come April...yay!

    Another Hit by Rivera!

Loved this series! Looking forward to third book on Finn, In Finn's Heart. Loved the main characters, Jack and Abby.
Glad Ms. Rivera will include other characters in new stories too.
