KIRKUS REVIEWS
"...a warm, interactive experience that doesn't sacrifice book to gimmick."
Kirkus Reviews
A little felt brownbear fingerpuppet provides the narration in this companion to In My Pond and In My Nest (both 2009). Centered among concentric diecuts that represent its den under a tree and environs, the little bear describes its home: "In my den I roll in soft, warm earth, / I put down leaves and pinecones, / I look outside for twigs . . . ." Siminovich's collages once again enhance the effect, strewing bracken around the hole in one spread, framing the hole with a chilly snowscape in another. The finger wielding the bear will need to tug a bit to get it through the last hole, emphasizing the snugness of its den "...with my family!" Like its predecessors and its fall companion, In My Tree (9780811870528), a warm, interactive experience that doesn't sacrifice book to gimmick. (Ages 618 mos.)

    Excellent book for babies!

My 9 month old son loves this book! This was one of the first books that he really paid attention to, instead of just trying to chew on it. He loves the little bear finger puppet, and the book is nice and short enough to keep his full attention. When we get to the final page, he loves flipping the back cover open and shut to see where the bear goes. I'm hoping that the finger puppet will stay attached and hold up to many more months and years of reading and exploring. Highly recommend this for infants who are at the age where they are starting to tune in and focus on books- the finger puppet is a great attention grabber!

Irresistible to Kindergarten Readers! With a Science connection, too!

Although these books are listed as pre-K "read to" books, my kindergarten children were so motivated by the finger puppets that I purchased more of them! The puppet, which is attached to the book, cannot get lost and it really brings the story to life. After reading the short little stories together as a 'shared reading' they became a center all their own. Wonderfully motivating! They all have the facts of the animal's habitat for a great science center, too!
