In Search of Captain Zero is, according to Outside magazine, "A subtly affecting tale of friendship and duty. [It] deserves a spot on the microbus dashboard as a hell of a cautionary tale about finding paradise and smoking it away."

This book will make you appreciate the safe, sane life you lead!

In Search of Captain Zero is the story of Allen Weisbecker's search for his childhood best friend Christopher. The two were surf buddies and shared a dream to find the ultimate surf location. Christopher had disappeared years earlier and Allen sets off with his dog and his surf board to track him down. Along the way he meets many interesting people, catches some awesome waves, and reminisces about the time he and Christopher spent together. As young surfers trying to get by the got involved in the drug trade, often way in over their heads. You'll have to laugh at the fixes they manage to get in and out of! At the end of the trail Allen finds something different then he bargained for and he has to decide how far he'll go for friendship. <BR/>This is a great travel adventure story. Allen is willing to go places and do things that most of us don't have the guts (or stupidity) for. I listened to the audio version and Joe Barrett has a great voice for the adventure. This book will make you appreciate the safe, sane life you lead!

Best Book I have ever read

While I do not read many books In Search of Captain Zero is a must have. While reading both books by Weisbecker you begin to understand the crazy adventures and journeys he undertakes while in search of his dear friend down the mexican coast. I cannot begin to explain the emotion and humor you experience while reading this book otherthan it is a must have!!

If you love books about travling

Surf stories in general are alway interesting to me, but this book is more than just that. People commonly use the phrase "hard to put down" but this book really is. It is full of adventures and stories about the past. Wiesbecker is all time at telling a good story. Please if your thinking about not buying the book read the exscript, it is just a glipse at how amazing Wiesbeckers writing is.

A MUST read if you surf, or don't...

If you've ever wanted to ditch all material possessions, hit the road, and forever pursue the art of surfing, then this book by Allan Weisbecker is a must read. Allan's descriptive and expansive tale winds through rich landscapes of mind, body and soul. Always balancing somewhere between the sensory indulgence of William Burrough's Naked Lunch, the hilarious situations and ironies of Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote, and spiritual ruminations of Edgar Allan Poe's The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, his adventures seem limitless and the surfing pure. Perhaps his story will help you find what you're searching for... Go For It! Bravo!

    A Surfer's Dream.

'In Search of Captain Zero' is a moving story of a surfer's travel through Mexico and Central America. Weisbecker's descrpitions make you feel as if you are travelling with him. I especially enjoyed his session at Pavones. The story was an interesting recollection of his travels and long lost friendship. Definitely worth reading.
