Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
When six children stumble into Woody's treasure garden, located in Eden, they are greeted by talking flora and fauna. Woody, the tree of life, tells the children a story explaining the seven universal laws of Noah. The laws are illustrated in seven split-screen stories, where the children see what life on Earth would be like with and without each law, such as respect human life, respect the family, and believe in one God. The multiple characters and mini-plots outside of the central story heavily obscure the message of the book. Readers may lose patience early on when each flower and insect is named even though they never again appear in the story. The book is twice as long as it needs to be to accomplish its admirable goal.
