Only a very small part of the book may be helpful!

I think everyone who is considering the purchase of this book already knows they may be having a problem with an individual who is being controlling or manipulative. The potential reader is looking for a way to deal effectively with that person. This entire book sets about exploring the different ways people try to control or manipulate others. It also goes into great depth giving some examples of that behavior and the psyche aspects of the perpetrator. That may be helpful but there is only one small chapter in the book talking to specific action that may be taken by the subject of the controller. Reading the book was a bit drawn out for me because I found myself wading through the detail trying to pull out some specific useful information that would help me deal with my specific circumstance. I am sure there must be better books out there. I was very disppointed especially since the book was well reviewed by others.

    more from this reviewer

    Interesting but not great.

I found this book interesting, but I think the author could have put much more information into this book such as cures for this disorder, recovery outcomes and so on. I did find the information in the book very interesting and did use it for a public speaking topic.

Waste of money a rehash of the same old tired crap. If your wounded or hurt it might make you feel less of a looser. if your looking to understand manipulative people shop elsewhere.

    For the courageous ones only!

What an amazing book! This is one direct, straight as arrow book that helps you face reality and deal with it. I have read other books but George Simon tells it like it is. Only the courageous ones who want to abort a vicious cycle of manipulation and claim their life back will 'handle' such a raw, truthful book! This is reality!

    A Timeless Must-have

Whether you are a therapist, teacher, parent or corporate executive, Dr. Simon's 30 years of research into the minds of manipulative people is presented here in a format for professionals and laymen alike. Not only does he clearly explain the types of manipulative characters/personalities, but also gives you steps for recognizing and diffusing the behavior. As a parent and graduate student in counseling, I have gained valuable tools already put into practice. Most importantly, by not allowing my children to use manipulative tactics, I am experiencing a greater sense of self-respect (you will read about this in the book) and a mutually respectful and meaningful relationship with those whom I love the most. A relatively quick but immensely potent read.

Needs detailed solutions on handling manipulative people.

The book gives you good examples that covers almost every area of the life, but the solution given are too brief, I hope author gives detailed solution in future releases.
