Overview

A murder investigation pairs a cynical detective and a vivacious teacher in Deborah Harmse’s engrossing novel of romantic suspense.

A cop who has seen too much of the dark side of life, Mackenzie Hoyle has developed a few rough edges. He’s working a murder case and has some hard questions for a troubled student at the local high school. But getting past Rebekah de Bieren challenges his toughest tactics. The tiny, blonde civics teacher is as protective as a mother lion, making his job a little more difficult—not that he’s complaining. She’s sexy, straight-shooting, and reawakens something deep and primal he’d forgotten existed.

Mack may be as big, tough, and sexy as they come. but underneath the badge is a gentle man who pulls Becky even as he pushes. He’s got a crime to solve; she’s got a kid to protect. But maybe somewhere in the middle, the crazy, wonderful passion igniting between them will lead to a chance for happiness neither one ever saw coming.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as excerpts from these Loveswept titles: The Rose of Blacksword, Spellbound, and Tender, Loving Cure.

This started off promising, and then sort of lost steam. The rest of it read a little amateurish, and did a lot of romance novel cliches that rang a little false. The pacing was a little weird as well. I would have liked the author to finish as she started, with her own voice and strong narrative, instead of sort of spiraling down a been-there-done-that rabbit hole. I would check out her next book since I saw a lot of potential, and just hope for a better outcome.

It was good but for some reason it did not really hold my attention. I would read and then do something and come back to it. It could just be me that could not settle down to read.
Mackenzie Hoyle is a homicide detective who will do what it takes to find the killers. He thinks everyone lies. Does not want to get married and have wife worry about him not coming home one day.
Rebekah de Bieren is a positive, person believes in everyone, she helps lots of causes with her time and money. She even requested to teach in worst areas because she thinks she can make a difference.
Mackenzie comes to her class to talk to her about one of her students when a rock thrown in window hits him in the head. Rebekah takes care of his wound. She agrees to help him with one of her students she counsels.
Rebekah also tries to bring a little laughter and relaxation to Mackenzie's life.
Mackenzie tries to show her the consquences of not getting the killer off the street and that people always lie to cops.
I liked Rebekah and you got to understand Mackenzie and see that their is reasons he feels like he does. They are a good team together.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.
