Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
This adult sequel to MacAlister's YA paranormals Got Fangs? and Circus of the Darned follows Francesca, ex-girlfriend and perforce soul mate of the ultra-hot vampire Benedikt, as she tries to live her own life. After rescuing her roommate from Norse god Loki's evil minions, Fran heads to the GothFaire in Germany in search of her missing mother. When she finds Ben with evil Naomi, she flips out. While resolving her emotional issues with Ben, she stumbles on one of her mother's secrets and meets Ben's shape-shifting brother, David, who has problems of his own. European myths get a workout in Fran's wisecracking narrative, at its best when her lusty Viking ghost guardians are on the scene. The pace is so fast and the sex so hot that the reader scarcely notices the lack of emotional, setting, or character depth. (Nov.)

    Highly Recommended for Romance Lovers

Definitely love Katie MacAlister. Her books are extremely amazing! This book has a good plot and is amazingly continued from the teen series she made including Benedikt and Fran! The vikings are back as well to make this book interesting! Definitely an amazing read I would tell any Romance lover to read! I could not put this book down no matter how hard I tried!

    Very entertaining

A very good book really funny with great love scenes. This story picks up from another book written for young teens but it does carry through with her dark ones theme. I liked it alot

    A must read!

I will freely admit that I am a huge Katie MacAlister fan, I purchase all of her books when they come out and read them extremely quickly. For me this book was worth the time between the two YA novels and this, the story of the characters after Fran had been given time to grow up. For me this was a perfect example of Katie MacAlister's ability to combine a great story with great humor. I laughed out loud many times and got looked at a little funny because of it as I normally do when reading any of her work. A great story and wonderful addition to the Dark Ones series!

fans will enjoy the return as Ben and Fran lead readers on a wild tour of Europe

The Fates declared that Francesca Ghetti was Benedikt Czerny's beloved soul mate. However, Fran loves Ben, but refuses to accept destiny when she believes in free will. She leaves her beloved in Europe while returning to America (see the young adult teen fantasies CIRCUS OF THE DARNED and GOT FANGS, written as Katie Maxwell).

Five years have passed since Fran said goodbye to Ben. After rescuing her roommate from an otherworldly assault, Fran returns to the Gothfaire where they first met when she learns her mom, who remained with the troupe, vanished. Fran knows her mom would never just leave as she takes her role as the witch seriously. Accompanying her are three Viking ghosts assigned to banish Loki. She also has a rival for Ben's affection as Naomi the tattoo artist overtly makes it clear she wants him. Finally there is the villagers' paying homage to Wagner. With all that floating around mom still remains missing while an evil necromancer begins a deadly incantation.

This zany clever Dark Ones sentry (see The Last of the Red Hot Vampires) stars the six foot (no longer teen) in an adult role as she finds her vampiric soul mate with an apparent lover and meets his sibling. As is her personality, Fran charges ahead ready to fight anyone even her own heart while ripping skin off of everyone even Viking ghosts. Although the reunion lacks intensity beyond jealousy and sex, fans will enjoy the return as Ben and Fran lead readers on a wild tour of Europe.

This is #8 in the Dark Ones series, and an all grown up continua

This is #8 in the Dark Ones series, and an all grown up continuation of the Goth Faire series under the pen name Katie Maxwell. This book takes place approximately 6 years after the events in Circus of the Darned. Fran has now finished college and is making plans to join her Dad's internet company. She hasn't seen Ben in several years, and in fact, had told him about a year prior that they were done and over.

What I really liked about this book was the return of the all the great secondary characters from the first 2 books. They really provided quite a bit of extra comic relief. Additionally, there were tie in characters from other books in the Dark Ones universe. I like following characters as they move from book to book in the series, even if they are the main characters.

As far as Fran and Ben's relationship goes, it starts out rather rocky. I will try not to give any big spoilers, but there was a moment when I really wondered if Fran and Ben were actually going to get together. Thankfully Fran's character has truly grown and matured in the years since the YA books and she actually listened to the explanation and trusted in her Dark One. Though I will say, that Ben should have spent a bit more time with the groveling.

Overall this was a good book and a great wrap up to the the YA books. Katie MacAlister left us with enough loose ends to spin a couple more Dark One books, but enough resolution to see that Fran and Ben were headed firmly into their HEA.

    check it out

If you wanted to know what happened to Fran and Ben, after "Got Fangs" and "Circus of the Darned" This book is for you. If you haven't read either story I strongly suggest you get "Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend," along with this book. Read them both you won't regret it.

    It was O.K.

I liked the plot but I really didn't thinks most of the stuff was funny and believable. I've read all her other books in the series and usually couldn't put the others down, I had a hard time finishing this book (but I did).

Ben and Fran Return - Read it in 2 days - Loved it!

Those of you who remember Katie Macalister's young adult books 'Got Fangs' and 'Circus of the Darned'. Will be happy to know Ben and Fran are back and older. So they now fit perfectly into the Dark ones series. Having thought Ben and Fran were so cute in the Young adult books. I was happy to read there more mature relationship now with twists and turns. I simply could not put the book down. Loved it! Want more Ben and Fran books!!
