About the Author

I began my career in funeral service right out of high school because I felt that I had many of the qualities necessary to be a successful funeral director. I wanted to be the change in the funeral industry, helping families to have positive experiences when saying goodbye to their loved ones. I attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science, graduated in September 2016, completed an internship, and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in January of 2018. My career has consisted of working at Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Princeville, Illinois, and Wyoming, Illinois. I have attended many conventions, became an InSight Certified Funeral Celebrant in 2018, was nominated and chosen for the WEEK 25 Women in Leadership Award in 2020, became a licensed pre-need life insurance producer in 2022, assisted in a new funeral facility remodel, and have been a part of many community events.

While serving families over the last six years in these rural Illinois communities, I realized that many people have no idea what goes into planning a funeral. They have misconceptions, questions, and concerns about the funeral and cremation processes. Some people even feel like the funeral industry hides behind secrets. I want to show transparency, as we have nothing to hide and actually strive for people to better understand what we do.

I felt as though many of the current funeral pre-planning guides available focus more on estate planning and the other end-of-life events. Although those are very important aspects of death, it seemed like the information about the actual funeral services in those guides was often oversimplified and lacked explanations. In this guide, I included the most common questions and situations I find people want to know more about. Every family deserves to know about the many funeral options available to them. I want them to have confidence while making their end-of-life decisions.
