Editorial Reviews

Ana T
I have to start this review by saying that for a long time I heard the best things about this story. I had it on my TBR pile and each time I would look at it and think: hmm is it really that good? But I never felt compelled to pick it up till a few weeks ago. Well, I was completely blown away by it, I loved it and I am now wondering why I lost all that time without reading it...
Jill Smith
4 1/2 stars, GOLD. With a writing style that is both lyrical and evocative, Ruth Wind makes her much-anticipated mainstream debut. Ms. Wind, (aka Barbara Samuel) seems born to produce novels that enrich us with their complex emotions and dramatic characterizations. A must-read book!
Library Journal
Compelling, complex protagonists, three-dimensional secondary characters, and a simmering sexual tension result in an intense, poignant, and beautifully rendered romance that is also filled with rural small- town ambiance and threaded with descriptions so vivid that the seductive sounds of the blues and the sultry heat of a Southern summer almost rise from the pages.
Lynn Coddington
In the Midnight Rain traverses the social landscapes of an integrated east Texas small town with respect and love.
Susan Scribner
I've always been a jazz fan, but my husband lives for the blues. After reading this beautifully written novel, I may have to sit down and listen to some of his favorite music. Any art form that inspires such a strong book must be worthwhile.

    Beautifully written story

A story so well crafted that I wanted to read it again as soon as I finished it to try to find early clues to the secrets that are so surprising when revealed near the end. Beautifully described characters and setting bind the story together tightly. One of the best romances I've read lately, full of emotion and passion. Even though it's not a recent book, it's the first contemporary I've read by Barbara Samuel a/k/a Ruth Wind. I'll be looking for more of this type.
