It also shows the love Christian artists have for U2 and singer Bono, whose activism on the topic first sparked the project, and it demonstrates how the Christian music community can summon its resources to tackle an issue shamefully ignored by the mainstream media. From a musical standpoint, there's plenty to love here as well; there's an eclectic group of artists ...

From a musical standpoint, there's plenty to love here as well; there's an eclectic group of artists involved, from crossover stars (Sixpence None the Richer, Jars of Clay, Tobymac), to hard-rock and rap names (Pillar, Grits, Sanctus Real), to the folk-pop of Nichole Nordeman. The tracks cover U2 signatures like "Sunday Bloody Sunday," executed with pounding intensity by Pillar, but there are some lesser-known covers, too: Starfield's version of "40" is mesmerizing, while Nordeman is beautifully eloquent in her performance of "Grace." Christian music fans love how U2 places spiritual themes in a mainstream context, U2 fans could potentially get clued into some talented Christian rock bands, and the 729 inhabitants of Mwakankomba village in Zambia can get some much-needed assistance. What's not to love?

Christian Artists Not To Be Overlooked

Having heard "Beautiful Day" by Sanctus Real, it is of my opinion that this album is shaping up to be the best collection of U2 cover songs I've ever seen. Reasons to buy the album - *Proceeds benefit the fight against AIDS in Africa - *Many of the great (plus some lesser known) U2 songs are on here - *These Christian artists, especially Jars of Clay w/ All I Want Is You, and Delirious? w/ Pride, are extremely talented and deserve a listen.
