Children's Literature - Jacki VawterA "Springboards Into Science" series book, the format repeats the frequently-used device of looking at a close-up feature of what is fully illustrated on the next page. For example, we see the eye of a bird on the odd-numbered page and see the pigeon when we turn the page. Useful, brief information accompanies the photos. Only seven creatures or plant life make up the entire book. The idea that they are all "in the park" is a stretch and little mention is made of the park theme. The illustrations appear dark and give a heavy quality to this simple picture book The book ends with a glossary, activity suggestions, list of books to read, videos on the subject, web sites to visit, and an index.
