Author Biography: Peter Sanders is internationally recognized as one of the world's leading photographers of the Islamic world. He began his career in the mid-1960's covering London's seminal rock-and-roll scene, capturing now legendary music icons in a collection that is considered a classic by collectors: images that include Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and others.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Photographer Peter Sanders offers arresting images of Muslim life around the globe in In the Shade of the Tree: A Photographic Odyssey Through the Muslim World. Sanders's use of light and shadow shows him to be a true artist; the simplicity of these photos is glorious. There are exterior (and even some stunning interior) shots of mosques, including Beijing's 1,000-year-old Niujie Mosque and Al-Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem, as well as astonishing portraits of individuals. Sanders includes photos from much of the Muslim world, including West Africa, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Turkey. (Aug.) Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

    Wow!

This is neither a hefty nor a heavy tome; it is not overflowing with ponderous quotes and deep dark esoterica. Rather this is a book of light and of lofty inspiration; of quiet contemplation; moreover, it is a book of sublime and subtle beauty. The photos show the diverse people of the Muslim world, and the diversity of creation. The quotes from Qur'an and Hadith are eloquent testominial of Gods' immensity and depth. I think that this book is accesible not just to Muslims, but to anyone who is a spiritualist, and whose heart is open to the songs diverse sung to The One
