About the Author

After growing up on the sidelines of the dominant culture in Bountiful, Utah, Diane Marie Cole graduated with an English and journalism degree from the University of Utah and then taught those subjects in Utah public high schools for two years. For 25 years, she worked for The Salt Lake Tribune, beginning as a copy editor and then as a reporter and education editor before becoming the newspaper’s ?rst full-time, female editorial writer. Meantime, she earned a master’s degree in political science. She now lives with her dog and husband in Southern California, where she writes, gardens, plays golf and complains about the country's politics.
