If 2001's Britney was a transitional album, capturing Spears at the point when she wasn't a girl and not yet a woman, its 2003 follow-up, In the Zone, is where she has finally completed that journey and turned into Britney, the Adult Woman. Like her peer Christina Aguilera, Britney equates maturity with transparent sexuality and the pounding sounds of nightclubs, but since she's not as dirty as Xtina, her spin is a little different. Where Christina comes across like a natural-born skank, Britney is the girl next door cutting loose at college, drinking and smoking and dancing and sexing just a little too recklessly, since this is the first time she can indulge herself. And that's what In the Zone is -- Britney indulging herself, desperate to prove that she's an adult. She has been freed from her musical parent, Max Martin, who is absent for the first time from a Spears album, choosing instead to play the field and work with a bunch of different collaborators, including Madonna, Moby, the Matrix, Trixster, Roy "Royalty" Hamilton, Bloodshy & Avant, and R. Kelly. Since she's so determined to be a woman, not a girl, she has completely shed the sugarcoated big hooks and sappy love songs that drove her stardom, concentrating on music that glides by on mellow grooves or hits hard with its hip-hop beats. It's all club-ready, but despite some hints of neo-electro and the Neptunes, it doesn't quite sound modern -- it sounds like cuts from 1993 or Madonna's Bedtime Stories and Ray of Light. Production-wise, these tracks are not only accomplished but much more varied than any of her previous albums -- in particular, Moby's "Early Mornin'" has a sleek feel, Mark Taylor's "Breathe on Me" is alluring, and the Bloodshy & Avant productions, "Showdown" and "Toxic," are irresistible ear candy in what is surely Britney's most ambitious, adventurous album to date. [An Australian version added a bonus track.]

not that great, don't waste your money on an album where all the songs sound the same. ripoff!
well, i think that britney has changed abit. because rock is like the new thing (avril) and she wanted to be in it to . but i hope it'll be a cool hit !
For All Yall Who thought Britney Was Gonna Last A Couple Albums, Guess What??? JOKES ON YOU! Britney Is On Her Fourth Album And Is Number One On TRL With Her Single "Me Against The Music", And Is Still "Stronger" Than Yesterday,Please Please Be Sure To Buy This CD It Is A Much More Mature Sound And I'm Sure You Will LOVE The Song, "Everytime" its Great. GOOOOOOOOOOO BRITNEY!!!!!!
This is definitely an amazing album. You have not seen (or rather, heard!) what Britney can offer to the world until you have listened to this CD! She grown up SO much as an artist -- she is more mature and her music has matured with her as well. Songs you'll definitely love include Touch of My Hand, Breathe on Me, Everytime, Toxic, and Outrageous. The first single, Me Against the Music, features Madonna. The next single will probably be (I Got That) Boom Boom, another awesome track. Everytime and Shadow are amazing as well and show have incredile vocals (especially Shadow)! Overall, it's an amazing album -- great material! Lovers of all music genres will find something for them here. Britney's vocals are amazing and all the beats and tunes rock. Even if you weren't a Britney fan before, this album will turn you into one. Britney's new music is incredible -- I guarantee you'll love it.
All the songs are amazing. They are all very different but they go together so well. Britney really took the time to make this album and she's done so well with it! The songs are so beautiful and they are very sensual. I absolutely love this album already!
This CD has nothing but moaning and groaning mixed with the best beats money can possibly buy. Her "supposed" maturity and growth is nothing more than sexual, illusive and senseless. Britney will never become what she wants to be simply because you come out topless or bottomless or kiss a girl and her "talent" will always be that: a publicity stunt. When it comes to the music she needs to get out of the zone.
I can't believe I was a Britney fan for so long. When she stopped making cd's I thought she was going to get her act together. No such luck. The "Porno-Pop Princess" is even lower. I wanted to stay with her because I thought she had talent. My CD's all went to charity. Last time I checked, they're still in the bin after almost a year.
Question: What three things make Louisiana residents want to wear paper bags over their heads? (I already gave the answers) From the getgo Spears was a mediocre talent with a Madonna complex. Although I confess that I did buy her first CD, I haven't had reason to waste my bucks on this tripe since. Spears hasn't got the voice to sustain her, so she has to model her act after Madonna and become increasingly more vulgar. In this MTV age, vulgarity sells. She's in for a fall, though because age takes its toll, and All the plastic surgery in the world can't make up for the lack of talent. When the shock value runs out, Spears can always find a job on Bourbon Street.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM!! I'VE WAITED 2 YEARS FOR HER TO COME OUT WITH SOMETHING NEW AND BOY DID SHE DO BETTER THEN I EXPECTEDTED. SHE HAS REALLY MATURED IN HER MUSIC AND HAS TAKEN IT TO A NEW LEVEL. SHE HAS A LOT OF SONGS THAT WOULD BE BIG HITS SUCH AS IVE GOT THAT(BOOM BOOM),TOUCH OF MY HAND,EVERYTIME,TOXIC,BREATH ON ME AND OUTRAGEOUS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS ALBUM YOU REALLY ARE MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING BIG!
I've been a die-hard Britney fan since my teens (I'm now 20). I thought Britney's absence from music was to re-tune her voice. I ran to get this CD. Unfortunately, the store does not give refunds. I guess I've grown up and Britney has not. Now I realize she never HAD a voice or talent for anything but grabbing newslines due to her skanky behavior. Unlike one of your reviewers, I do not believe her stuff has class. She's just lousy. Sorry I wasted $13 on this cheesy stuff. I guess that's what being an adult is all about....Taste, Class and Moving On.
We have waited so long for britney to start singing again and now she's back with as with a cool new albome youll all enjoy!
this is a sad, sad album.
Bought the CD. Regret it. Nothing more to say except that Spears needs to stop mirroring Madonna, develop a real voice and personality. What a waste of money
I agree with the the reviewer. Britney's breathy nasal singing which in my opinion, overuses it to the point of annoyance, seems to be focusing on sexuality that is racy and could care less on her much younger audience. I am not talking about your normal Ooh! I am hot for you boy-girl thing but toward homosexuality since that is the image she seems to exude in her videos and suspect it on some of her other tracks. A lot of her music bed on this cd sounds pretty cheesy and much on the sample sounds and electronic keyboards (which is pretty much the norm on pop music these days anyway) Remember, on her very first album and hit ..baby hit me one more time her song opens with a pretty sassy rythmic piano. I can't believe that a star of her calibre does not demand a better sound or production. Some predict that this album will be a sellout like her previous ones. I pretty much doubt that. She did not finish her tour on her last album which is telling that her and/or those who work on her music are laxing on their endeavours. I do hope for the sake of her young audiences, that it doesn't have that kind of success.
This is by far the best britney has brought us yet! I love this cd, it shows us that shes not afraid to show us shes no longer a girl, but she IS a woman! Good job brit! I love this cd!
I was pleasantly surprised by this CD. I am a grown man who has never purchased a Britney CD before because I thought of her as a child's star. Not any more. I love the production of the album - very techno inspired and great beats. I love it.
This is the best cd by Britney Spears yet. I have and love all of her previous cd's. You will not be disappointed with this cd. All the songs are awesome... a great cd to listen to all the way through!! Go out and buy it today!
I think this new CD is excellent! It has a lot of funk and dance beats and it sounds great! Very different from the little girly sounds of the old Britney. This is much more sofisticated and interesting. It makes me like her so much more.
I don't know what I expected out of this CD, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have her other CD's, but this is an awesome change. If you love to dance, then you need to grab this one immediately! It's all about having fun. I am impressed that she is not afraid to be herself no matter what everyone thinks, and her new CD shows and owns that.
But this can only be expected by Spears, who has never been known for her musical prowess at all. If one can ignore the insipid fluff and listen close to the real music, one would realise it's not half-bad. No dance singer would be ashamed of them, certainly, and with Spears' breathy, forgettable vocal delivery, these songs could just as easily be sung by someone like Kylie Minogue. Some of the stand-outs are the frothy "Breathe on Me", the slow, almost oriental mock-string arrangement of "Touch of My Hand" and the scratchy thump of "Toxic". It's a shame that these cute beats had to be wasted!
The older she gets, the better the music. This is truly her best album, its like a favorite little black dress... simple yet always sexy and fun! It great for those of us that are in their 20's...when life is about balancing having fun and partying with being mature and taken seriously. Britney encorparates all that in her latest album accompanied by funky beats and dance music. My favorite track are toxic, everytime and shadow.
Omg this cd is horriable every song sounds the same and every song has like the same beat. Britney Spears making this cd 2 years after her last reflected her going down the waste tubes..
I purchased the cd on its debut. Let me say it is well worth it. Her even more controversial lyrics are enough to have elderly pass out and get parents red in the face. Each and every song continues to share the essence of Britney but with a new approach. This even racier side of Britney will inevitably bring her to the top of the charts once again. I highly recommend this cd to everyone.
yeah...i was thinking after almost 3 years of not doing anything that this cd was gonna be horrible but...if you get it and listen to it beware...its quite addictive
