Army Times - Off Duty
The immortal question: "I wonder who this dump is named for?"

Wonder no more. Marine Corps brat, Air Force veteran and Army spouse Linda D. Swink spent four years researching and compiling "In Their Honor: The Men Behind the Names of Our Military Installations" to provide answers.

The book is a unique reference source for biographical data on the people - some famous, many obscure - who did something notable enough to have a military facility named after them.

One of a kind compilation of military courage and history

This thoroughly researched and documented book by Linda D. Swink fills a long empty niche. The author worked for years to bring together information that answers the question: For whom are the military installations named -- and why?

Swink doggedly kept after government records and public records and some not quite so public to find the information that told not only the name but what they did that caused the government to name military installations after these men. Edwards Air Force Base -- do you know who Edwards is? Each military base, camp, etc. is named after a hero who Swink has carefully included in this one-of-a-kind reference tool.

But more than reference, this information tells about courage and pride and hardship and overcoming even when the odds are totally against you. It is inspiring and may be the only research book you'll read with tears in your eyes. Men died for this country, saved their brothers in arms, turned the tide of battles and gave their lives for their country.

This makes a great book to add to your own collection, but also to give as a gift to those with an interest in the military or have served. Or even for the anti-war pacifist who will appreciate the suffering war causes and the demands that make some rise far above anyone's expectations.

Beautifully presented by Little Miami Publishing Company. Definitely a book to consider since it is the only place you will find all of this information in one spot.
