Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This is the revised edition of a book written by three professionals involved in early childhood and family education and part of a series about "Your Child at Play." The intended audience is parents and caregivers, so the text is straightforward and encouraging. The book is divided into five sections—A Time for Adjustment, Everyday Living, Growing and Learning, Playtime with Family and Friends, and Taking Charge. It is really a handbook for those who care for and about special needs children. There is no glossing over here, just straight talk about the turmoils and joys of caring for special children. There is practical advice, too, as parents enter the medical and educational world of children with special needs with all of its new terminology and challenges. Black-and-white photos and comments from parents of special children add a human quality to the encouraging prose. If you know a family of a special needs child, this book would be a comforting addition to the family.
