Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In this sixth book of "The 39 Clues" series, siblings Amy and Dan Cahill are on the hunt for more of the clues that will ultimately lead to world domination. They travel to Australia seeking their deceased parents' friend and cousin Shep, a surf bum who can help them in their search. Threatened at every turn by the malicious and power-crazed Isabel Kabra, the children brave hungry sharks, poisonous spiders, and a house fire in their quest to become the branch of the family that comes out on top. In a surprising turn of events, Amy and Dan learn the disturbing truth about their parents' death, and a former enemy proves herself to be a friend. Shifting alliances and the sense that the children can trust no one make for an intriguing story, yet the ease with which they seem to figure out the significance of the clues often leaves the reader trailing behind. Despite the fact that they are children, the adult world grants them status as equals, and their enigmatic au pair Nellie facilitates and indulges them in whatever they plan to do to pursue more clues. The main characters grow in their understanding of events but they are not emotionally dynamic. Due to the nature of this series, it is impossible to join the ongoing plot by reading just this one book. Allusions to things that happened in prior books and references to the numerous branches of the family are reasons this book cannot stand alone. Reviewer: Michele C. Hughes

The Best Book in the Series So Far!

"The 39 Clues: In Too Deep," by Jude Watson is the sixth installment in the New York Times best-selling "39 Clues" series, which will contain a total of ten books when completed. With surprises around every corner, this book is impossible to put down and will keep the reader constantly wondering what will happen to fourteen and eleven-year-old siblings Amy and Dan next! Written by the same author who wrote book four in the series, "The 39 Clues: In Too Deep" will not disappoint anyone who reads it and is the best book in the series so far! It will surely leave all fans excited for the release of book seven, in which one big question will finally be answered: What branch of the Cahill family are Amy and Dan in? Find out in "The 39 Clues: The Viper's Nest," by Peter Lerangis, to be released February 2, 2010!

    For Ms Delconte

In Too Deep by Jude Watson was in my opinion the best book in the 39 Clues series to date. In this adventure, Dan and Amy headed to Australia, the land down under to follow in thier parents foot steps and find the next clue. I really enjoyed the way Jude Watson described the characters thoughts. It helped me understand what was happening in the book. I also enjoyed that many of the characters from the previous books played an important role in the plot. However, I would have liked to read about Jonah Wizard and his dad.

In Too Deep was a very suspenceful book. It seemed like Dan and Amy faced a problem in every single chapter from being kidnapped to being stuck in a pit full of dangerous animals. In In Too Deep you finally find out who set the fire that killed Dan and Amy's parents and who else was there on that fateful night. Also one of the main characters gets permanently "eliminated" from the hunt of the clues. Dan and Amy start to become suspicious of who their Au Pair Nelly Gomez really could be when she piloted a huge jet liner. Could she be a Madrigal? Could she be from another branch of the Cahill famliy? This really makes the me think about Mr. McIntrye's words " trust nobody". If you have been reading the 39 Clues series, or you are somebody who is looking for an adventerous action packed book, I would strongly recommend reading In Too Deep by Jude Watson.

Amy and Dan find themselves in Australia, where Dan delights in learning about the deadly animals before they find themselves connecting with a long-lost uncle. The meeting almost makes them want to forget about their quest and live a carefree life with him, but they both know it's not meant to be.

However, he might have information about their parents. They refuse to tell him anything about their quest because they don't want to put him in more danger.

Danger occurs all around them. Amy's given a choice to learn about what really happened the night her parents died. Did she block out terrible memories or is someone feeding her lies about that night?

With all the threats and double-crossings, it's clear that Amy and Dan are the team to beat - and someone's out for blood. Will they uncover any clues about the past or about their parents in the dangers of the Outback?

Another thrilling chapter in the quest for THE 39 CLUES as Amy and Dan's adventure only becomes more complicated and more dangerous than ever. Now, the targets are closing in on the siblings and hitting close to home. Big questions are about to be answered and I can't wait to uncover them.

    Wonderful Series!

I have read all 6 books and it is an exciting series. Having purchased these for my niece, I suggested she use the Internet to learn more about the places the children visit in their search for the 39 Clues. This not only has a world geography connection for classrooms, but students can compare the varied writing styles, since each book in the series is compiled by a different author! She is interested in logging on and participating in the on-line process of finding the 39 Clues for herself! I'm eager to get book #7 in February 2010 and book #8 in March 2010! Yes, these will be part of next year's Christmas gift ... as well as any other part of the series or Clue Card Packets (Bks 1-3 & 4-6 are already available) in print by then!

    A Great Addition

This book was a great addition to the captivating 39 Clues series. In it Amy and Dan once again fight to be the first or their Cahill relatives to find the next of 39 Clues. They are faced with danger around every turn, and they discover some startling truths about their past that make them more determined than ever to win the hunt for the clues and justify the death of their parents.
