This is the first account of slavery I've read that didn't sugar coat it. Jacobs details the hatred & opression of blacks by their white masters & mistresses. People who were so horrendously mistreated & hatefully abused & neglected physically, emotionally & mentally. Jacobs does a wonderful job recounting her days in slavery. She depicts a will to survive that is totally foreign to us. She gives us a glimpse into the thoughts & feelings of someone who's thoughts & feelings were never considered. An amazing book to say the very least!
