Overview

We can control a lot of things, but our heart is not one of them…….

Kinji Rockwell is a sassy, young journalist climbing the corporate ladder at one of Chicago’s leading newspapers. When asked to go undercover on a deadly case, she is stunned. Though fully aware of the consequences; the money and promise of becoming lead journalist are just too enticing.

Edwin ‘Mo’ Aguilera and his best friend Boss rule the Northside of Chicago. They want it all, by any means necessary. Completely taken by Kinji’s beauty, Mo is immediately drawn to her, vowing to have her at any cost.

Originally thought as a means to a need, Kinji, to her dismay, finds herself falling for Mo; just as quickly deciding that love has no place in her world. Kinji pulls out every stop to push Mo away, finding herself right back in arms time and time again.

Finally accepting her feelings, Kinji opens her heart and allows Mo inside. Just as their relationship blossoms, so do the lies and deceit. Mo is none the wiser about her original intent and just as things become contented, Kinji finds the lies and deceit staring her in the face.

Terrified of losing the man she’s come to know and love, Kinji desperately searches for a way out of the entanglement, finally finding a viable solution. Will it work or will it be too late as Mo is on the brink of discovering Kinji’s motives and the woman that she used to be. Will Mo’s love be able to conquer all or will the truth destroy their union, quickly turning to hate and giving Kinji a terrifying glimpse of street revenge with Mo leading the charge.

Reading the synopsis I knew to expect some type of drama, looking at the cover (which I normally ignore) I thought the drama was gonna be low keyed but Ms LaShaun BOUGHT the drama like only she can. The storyline had me riveted from the very beginning. It started with an easy flow. There were a host of multidimensional characters with their own drama which add so much flavor to the plot which had me wondering where the story will take the next turn and at no point in the story was I disappointed (except one pt). This was my first time reading a book by this author, it was well written and and it will not be my last. Keeping in mind that this was her first novel, she came across like a seasoned storyteller. I went through different emotions and anxiety, a roller coaster ride that will not end until the very end. This is THAT book you read non-stop and call in sick the next day. AND whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO THE END BEFORE IT IS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

The beginning started out very slow to me. It was a struggle to continue, but I 'm glad I didn't give up. The book really got interesting two thirds into it. I would like to give it 5 stars, but the cursing was just too much. I really enjoyed the story. I do recommend.

BRIEF SUMMARY Kinji is a journalist who is going undercover for a story. She also needs a mark to base her story on. Kinji meets Edwin, a man involved with the crowd she wants to infiltrate. Kinji didn¿t count on falling for Edwin, as her feelings begins to grow. When the truth reaches the surface and forces are against them, Kinji tries and figure out a way for them to be together. THOUGHTS This was an amazing read, another great find for me that blew me away. The kindle length of this book is 6006, at some point I was expecting to start skipping pages and maybe felt bored, but it never happen. Not once did I skip or felt the need to put this book down. I would consider this book a hood opera event, it had so many twists, and turns that involves street life, revenge, murder, sex, lies, enemies, friendship, and love. I really enjoyed the art work for the book cover, however, the cover tells one story, while what¿s inside tells a different story. The story revolves around four main characters who are best friends that met each other, Edwin aka Mo, Kinji, Tinna, and Boss. The beginning of the book is like chess pieces on a board. The author sets out each in their respected places and played them all until the very end. There were so many characters involved with this story, that the author allowed us to get to know the players and characters. Kinji and Mo¿s story was one of turbulence and turmoil, but their chemistry sets the pages on fire. Kinji¿s past was rough and it eventually caught up to her and came full circle. Mo was 6¿5 and 300 lbs, a big sexy guy, and just a look from him could be lethal to those around him. Both characters¿ story will leave you wanting more with each page that is turned. The lies and drama that unfolds will leave you at the edge of your seat craving more. Boss and Tinna¿s story was just as stormy and dangerous. The moment they meet, they loved hard and couldn¿t get enough of each other. I love that Boss was a boss but found his weakness to be Tinna. So many other characters, that I couldn¿t even begin to go through, were definitely important to the story. The other couple that I also feel in love with, Success and Shan. Their relationship also encounters trouble and adds to an already amazing story. With love and friendships continuously being tested, the author brings her readers to another level of entertainment and excitement to a well taught out story. Story: GREAT Enjoyment: GREAT by Romance Novel Junkies

    Excellent Book!

This books captures the dynamics of family, friends and secrets. It is truly captivating with many twist and turns. I truly enjoyed the story line, the connection with the characters, and the overall lessons of honesty and trust can sometimes be a very grey area. This author is definitely on my watch list. I look forward to reading future novels.
