Overview

For a comedy group that was born and raised in visual mediums -- web videos and the Saturday Night Live television show -- the Lonely Island are still way ahead of the curve when it comes to the comedy album format. Of course, music was at least half the reason links to their series of SNL Digital Shorts would dominate in-boxes every following Monday. The smart mimicry of teen pop ("Dick in a Box"), Euro-disco ("Jizz in My Pants"), or old-school rap ("Lazy Sunday") is half the attraction, and when you add the "aw shucks" look of on-camera Islander Andy Samberg, you can get away with a lot of shocking material. So many mentions of naughty bits would be tedious if Samberg and SNL writers Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone didn't have the brains to pull it off, and dealing with the differences between races seems much less dangerous when the trio show they're well-versed in the works of their hip-hop guests, E-40 and T-Pain. Their hiring of eccentric underground rap producer J-Zone shows their in tune with what's next and when white rasta wannabe "Ras Trent" complains of his "bomboclat parents" and declares he can make a chalice out of a Sprite can, the snarky commentary is made all the sweeter by a lyric that drops two deep reggae references: "Me night nurse never want to plant de corn." The track has also been updated so that a visual joke from the original SNL version is removed, and with all the interludes and new material, plus fake alternative album covers throughout the booklet, this isn't an afterthought but a fully committed comedy album. On top of that, it's a hilarious comedy album that's just as hip, inventive, and inappropriate as their digital shorts. [On 2009, Republic issued a clean version of the CD/DVD edition, with all explicit lyrics and profanities removed.]

The men that bring us the hilarious SNL Digital Shorts are downright hilarious in this CD/DVD package. This album contains all of my favorites, plus hilarious new tracks that haven't been seen on any SNL episode... What really makes this album a treat, is that it includes a DVD of several of their music vidoes, which are all one-of-a-kind... Great purchase!

Any album that's second track includes the lyrics "Its the Champanya/from the man with the bandana/Can't stand by flute with anything but Santana" is bound to be funny. First things first, I liked about 70% of this album. Alot of the main songs are great but there seems to be alot of filler that honestly could have been left out.Lonely Islands stuff sometimes doesn't make the jump from screen to CD very well. The extras rock tho.

I started listening to this CD laughing my butt off! Pretty soon I was listening to it on my iPod everywhere. I just LOVE I'm on a Boat, Ras Trent, We Like Sports, and Lazy Sunday. BUY THIS CD!!!! It comes with SNL Digital Shorts not seen on SNL and some that were on SNL!!! Beware: you'll fall in love with Andy Samberg!!

The Lonely Island's "Incredibad" has been in my car since we bought it. My brothers refuse to listen to anything else! Our favorites are "Boombox" and "Rastrent" - definitely worth a buy. Anybody that can fit "preconceived notions" into a song gets my vote.

With the exception of a select few songs, this album was pretty funny. My girlfriend of all people actually introduced me to this album. There were a few tracks that were a little overly krass and uncalled for in our opinion, which is the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5, but with that exception, this album is simply hilarious. My favorite trax were Sax Man (feat the ever hilarious Jack Black), Lazy Sunday, (feat the awesome Chris Parnell), Ras Trent, Punch You In The Jeans, and Dreamgirl (feat the talented Norah Jones, whose albums I really enjoy and pretty much own all of). Most of this album, spare a few trax, is pretty funny. If you like a good comedy album, then I totally recommend this album. There is some pretty comical and enjoyable stuff on here. Just be forewarned that a few trax are pretty krass & vulgar. That being said though, I would recommend this CD.
