Indaba: Interviews with African writers

Dennis Brutus, Jeremy Cronin, Nuruddin Farah, Nadine Gordimer, Dan Jacobson, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Doris Lessing, Gcina Mhlope, Sheila Roberts, Sipho Sepamla, Véronique Tadjo: some of Africa’s greatest authors here interviewed by Stephen Gray, himself a masterful writer, respected in the USA and Europe as well as in his home country. An indaba or get-together of twenty-three interviews with a wide range of African writers – some of great documentary value (Guy Butler, Fatima Dike, Doris Lessing); some reprinted widely (Nadine Gordimer, Sipho Sepamla, Véronique Tadjo) and yet others presenting haunting interpretaions of the present (Nuruddin Farah, Michèle Rakotoson, Sheila Roberts). The transcripts assembled here first appeared in several journals and newspapers, ranging from Publishers Weekly to the South African Mail & Guardian.
