A fresh and practical look at piano teaching

As an independent piano teacher, I am always interested in ideas that will provide professional enrichment. I enjoyed Klingenstein's new manual a great deal, and I have gleaned several new ideas from it that I was able to immediately implement in my studio. My favorite chapters are the ones dealing with professionalism, studio documents, and technology for the studio. I improved my studio logo, and set up a better studio website than I had previously as a result of reading these chapters. There is tons of pedagogical information in this book that would be very valuable to a newer teacher, but I have found them interesting as well. This book would make an economical and fairly thorough text for a piano pedagogy course at the university level. I did hope to see a bit more along the lines of ethical issues pertaining to accepting transfer students. I believe that a certain protocol must be "codified," if you will, to alleviate the strain that often comes hand-in-hand with interviewing transfer students -- particularly if those students have not yet notified their current teacher of their intent to make a change. There seems to be a vacuum on this topic, with most books taking only a cursory look at the subject. Notwithstanding this omission, I highly recommend this book. It will give even the seasoned piano teacher fresh and practical ideas for the studio.
