India, My Love: A Collection of Poetry

Indian democracy has been undergoing reforms since 1947, but it has failed so far to address the basic social, economic, and political aspirations of the people at large. Many real facts have been covered up or distorted, and the mainstream media, along with many intellectuals and historians, often remained silent on most matters related to social justice.

Expressing a vivid egalitarian outlook as critical to correcting these flaws, author Jay Kotek presents India, My Love, featuring ninety-five poems based on his life experiences and portraying the way that political, historical, social, and philosophical aspects of a nation’s events imbue an individual with power through the formation of a rational thought process. Kotek shares his inner journey to the wilderness in his attempt to pursue the truth of existence, blending mysticism and realism. His verses display an ardent desire for a renaissance to occur within the mind of every Indian, leading to the achievement of the goals of social justice and the preservation of the pluralistic nature of the great country of India.

This collection offers poems from an unusual perspective—that of a sincere Indian dreaming of a reformed, free, frank, and strong India.

CHAPTER 1

Mystic Journey

    Pain in My Heart

The soothing touch of loved ones,
when trying to express it in words,
turns into a melody and echoes within
like a lark's note in a joyous mood
spread in the meadows and valley.
    Yearning to meet the Beloved,
    the dream arises,
    surging the joy hidden
in the unknown depths of the heart.

When you were near and closer,
in a hug where your heart beat was felt,
a hidden gap, a subtle vacuum sustained,
    making our love so deep.

Words shared never take us deep.
To feel your innerness, come close to me.
Let me feel the fragrance of you,
    the music of your heartbeat
where my lips can paint the beauty,
    the unknown contours, with colours.
And when we can feel us as one,
a rhythm in harmony, a melody, remains.
Silence pervades within a merging moment.

    All partings remain painful,
    the reason beyond our perception.
    Mystery makes us believe fate.
    God Almighty hid the facts,
and still we call him the truth.
Can we call him our hope?
When the mind is calm and serene,
perhaps mystery is revealed with grace.
It expounds the care within my heart,
taking this world as a dream,
    a virtual presence transient,
    witnessing the experience
    unattached like a heartless stone
where pain remains in a subtle form,
    arising from an unknown corner
    as sweet memories never erased.

    My Love

    My eyes were blind
    and ears were deaf.
    Irrelevant talk of my foolishness
    was my nature.
I learned my blindness and deafness
were an outcome of my ignorance.
    Trust taught me to love;
    love taught me compassion.
    When I searched for you,
    I couldn't find you
    but felt the emptiness.
In that emptiness, your grace filled me.
    You let me walk over,
and my food was your being,
and you pervaded every atom around me.
I felt your unknown hands caressing
and your love healing my wound.
    Hold me close to you
    even if I go astray.
Spare not my hand from your hold,
    where I become a servant, a lover, a friend
    of all your creations.

    My Search

    "Truth always exists,
    so as providence is compassion,
    and as beauty, infinite love."
I heard the voice speaking to me.
    In my search, I went,
    wandered around the universe,
a particle blown in the cosmic current
    on a journey to realise.
    Then wisdom crept into me
    as a question
that needs an answer in silence,
with no utterance but absolute perception.
    "Am I the prodigal son?"
    The squanderer,
    who is loved forever
    and is the lone heir
    who inherits the universe.
    I kneel before you
    not in fear
    but with absolute acceptance.
    My beloved, my wholeness,
the holy one of infinite love,
    hold me in your arms.
    Your touch purifies
    the venom deposited in me
from all ego, pride, and ignorance.
    Let love prevail.
    Behold, the ways are unknown.
Perceive that only light can guide.
    Truth, providence, and beauty,
    the trinity –
I learned the content of every wave
that exists as the absoluteness of love.

    When I Miss You

When dark clouds covered the sky,
    I missed my polar star.
I used to gaze at the stars at night
as the dark sky lit up by stars
    weaved my dreams
    with the threads of solitude
    entwined in coloured thoughts,
    spreading many rainbows within.
Your absence brought a tinge of pain,
    took away my joyous moments.

    The words of solace echoed
    like the lark's song,
    tore the silence apart,
flashed the light on my path.
    No winter prevents the spring,
no clouds cover the stars forever,
    and no form remains eternal.
    Life remained a mystery.
    Often I pondered,
    Who am I?
    Why I am here?

    Unanswered questions
    like thorns penetrated.
No matter who won or lost,
I fell in love with all.
    It taught me to fill my heart with love;
    it heals wounded hearts,
    reflects the beauty within.
To move in this vast world,
let the brightness lead me ahead,
where I learned to wait in patience
    to experience what was missing,
    the sojourn of my search,
for the journey to my inner self
    that unveils the joy, wholesome.

    You and Me

    I feel the subtle bridge
that existed between you and me,
    a consciousness within a body
that dwells within the macro cosmos
like a bubble in an infinite ocean.
    The thoughts of existence,
    struggles for survival
pertained to the bounds of time.
    The solitariness of empirical trances
tends to build the link –
    a virtual, momentary occurrence –
    but brought tears of joy,
    realising your grace that wraps
and throbs in every atoms nearby.
    The truth is
    everything that I am
    exists in transcendence
    where my entity sublimates,
which makes a node of your vibes.

    Union

Love is not a physical attraction.
    A feeling erupts beyond reason
    in a momentous explosion,
    and it flows
when the soul joins the cosmic dance
where the vibes of the other
    create a desire
    for a boundless psychic,
    carnal union to feel endlessness;
    where the salt of sweat,
    rhythms of rapid breath,
    and throbs of a heart
    echo within me.
    Insatiable desires burn
in the acme of orgasmic moments.
    Even though joyous,
    I long to go beyond
    the physical abode I hold
    to learn, know, and become
the one in an eternal union.

    Search for Love

The universe fed us every moment.
    Her bare breasts appeared skylike.
Neither my eyes nor mind could contain
    her grace-shared elixir all day
as we suckled the breath incessant.
    Once knowing this divine secret,
    the journey to search began
to find the hands that care,
extended the hopes to live on
for more than a mother's care
that fed, caressed, and inspired me forever.

As I started walking on my feet,
I saw things with my eyes
though grown in her love and care.
Desire crept into me with ego
as passion aroused as tidal waves
to take the sensual paths of the wilderness
    and search for carnal love.
    Like a beast, I wandered
    where love felt so intangible,
As it remained, a war of conquest
filled me with the dryness of a desert
to sow the seeds of impermanence.
In that loneliness, I found how shallow
my feelings were, lost in illusions.

I wandered like a lone immolating human,
in the scorching sun and wilderness.
    Material needs did not suffice
in my deep desire to go deeper.
The journey went on as I grew old.
My search for love went on.
To quench my thirst for love
and to abate my burning pain,
the heavens led me to the lone sage.
    His words opened the doors:
    "Love can only be given.
Search the spring within you, my son."

    His words echoed within me,
    a revelation of the mystery.
The flames in me tapered down.
Meditation took me to my home,
where I felt the Mother Divine's embrace.
    A perception of permanence transcendental
cooled me with torrents of infinite love.

    All for Me

The light takes the darkness away.
    Where truth expounds in glory
and makes me silent, I remain a witness.
    Unfastening the conditions,
    the doors of wisdom open
for me to enter the sublime layer
    of the limitless, unconscious mind.

Now I travel with the light –
the light that was with me
    that created a shadow,
that guided me in the darkness,
    Accompanying me in the journey,
    it held me so close,
where I witnessed the mass I held,
my existence, which is not the real me.
    I am the brightness
that aligned in a ray of light.
I am the melody in music.
I am the rhythm in a dance.
Even my death will not be an end,
as it is for my organic mass,
as long as the light remains within,
expounding upon dance, music, and colour,
where I become a wave of joy.

    Whenever one rejoices,
more conflicts settle than ever thought
and bring harmony in mind and body.
And the moment one learns the truth,
and the nondual state is attained,
    a subtle perception arises
that I am the one who owns,
and for that one, the universe exists.

    Submission

    Compassion embraces
like the golden sun rays that spread,
drowning me in a flood of lights.
Your presence is a subtle mystery,
your love is the truth that binds
where gratitude is the only riches
    that compensate for infinite love.
Do I deserve such prolific love?
    Nothing appears before my heart,
but I surrender at your feet.
    Your refuge fills me with awe;
I bow down to kiss and worship you,
    knowing your infinite nature,
to burn my ego and all evils.
    Residue, for millions of years,
deposited in me the rust of false pride,
then sublimated me to sanctify my soul
to realise I am your vibe.
