    Loved it!

    'I was at a local book store and asked one of the clerks if there was a book she consistently recommended to friends. She found this one for me and said whenever she lends it out she never gets it back and always has to buy another to replace it. Admittedly I was a little disappointed in her choice (nature books are not my chosen genre) but not wanting to hurt her feelings I bought the book. I finished it that night. Although I enjoy the mountains myself I have never been interested in the mountain man style of life. I'm still not interested to live it but I sure did enjoy reading about the author striving to live it while not having any experience with it and only a few books,journals, and a dog to guide him along the way. It depicts those type of life experiences we all wish we had when we were younger and in a little better shape. I have lent it to several friends (some nature people, some not) and have always received a hearty thumbs up upon its return--yes, I have not had to replace it yet. I make sure this one comes back! Enjoy

    A wonderful book for outdoor lovers.

    I used to be an avid outdoorsman. After reading this book and I felt like this man had done what I always wanted to do, but never had the oportunity. His description of the Montana wilderness and his honesty about his feelings and experiences really made this book stand out.

    Its hard to stop reading!

    I came across this book on accident while looking for some canoeing books... and I started reading it right in the book store. I couldn't put it down and so I bought it and read it in two sittings. Pete Fromm tells this story with talent and in a way that pulls you in so you feel like you're along the wilderness with him! This book turned me onto the Big Sky series by A.B. Guthrie which I also recommend highly. I'm reading this book for the 4th time now and it always reads like a first-timer!
