Indy and his group are trying to return the crystal skull to its rightful place. Unfortunately, Spalko kidnaps them. Spalko and his men have Ox, and they want Indy to decipher the words Ox keeps saying over and over. His words are, "to lay their just hands on that golden key...that open's the palace of eternity." Indy tries his best to understand the hand movements of Ox, and then realizes that Ox is drawing words in the air. He gets him paper and as Ox draws picture words; Indy realizes it is a map. Henry, a young boy, knocks over the stand and tells everyone in Indy's crew to run because they are going to be killed. The escape journey the group takes is indeed hazardous. They get caught in quicksand, enter a cave of flesh-eating ants, and have one exciting occurrence after another. This book is written in graphic form, which is a favorite of mine. They make it perfect for students who are reluctant readers and never seem to finish a book on their own. It is also a wonderful way to introduce nonfiction books to young people. Young adults who want to read anything they can get their hands on will enjoy the graphics, exhilarating story, and fast-paced text. The full-color graphics make an enormous impact on the story. However, I do not recommend this book for several reasons. This is volume three in a series. Absolutely no summary is provided at the beginning of the book in order to bring the reader up-to-date with the storyline. I felt like there were more illustrations than information. At the end of this book it does not even say, "to be continued." It just stops. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
