There is no doubt that this book should be the bible for anyone wanting to produce films or tv shows; or anything for that matter. Although it focuses on independent movies the theories of producing that it offers should be employed for any medium. I bought this book from a B & N here in my area and then I ordered a couple on line for some of my friends. I bought the book because being a Theater producer I want to explore branching out into other mediums. This book is chock full of information for the movie and tv business but the theories of producing such as understanding "ego" and "relatonships" and the techniques of "negotiating" I certainly use in the Theater. I have never heard (or read) anywhere where it was put so simply and succinctly. IF THIS BOOK IS NOT IN EVERY PRODUCERS LIBRARY....IT SHOULD BE! Because I can envision going back to it and finding answers on producing as the problems come up. The pages are only worn by my going through it for answers. I want to thank the author for doing the book and thank goodness for Barnes and Noble who had it so clearly displayed so I could find it. (Of course the cover is an eyecatcher!)
I´m glad to say that this book actually gives you real information from real life to be able to make real movies. When I first read it I wasn't very fond of producing (Always thought it was the boring and non-creative part of filmmaking) but thanks to it, I realized how much creativity can be involved in the art of good production. And is written in a clear and straight way, interesting and with examples from the author's experience, which helps you to take those difficult steps needed to produce a film. If you are (or want to be) a producer or if you're not, a must to understand what production is about.
I visited a Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Santa Monica California where Mr. Schreibman was speaking. I sat down and listened to what he had to say about producing and was very impressed. I didn't buy the book at the time but decided to go back several days later to purchase his book. Alas, they were all gone and I had to go to another bookstore to find a copy. Well I sat and read the book over several sessions and boy was I impressed...this guy knows his stuff. My family has been in the business for some 40 years with my mother and father and my brothers...all working behind the camera in some fashion. So I knew somewhat about production. But after reading this book I REALLY knew about production and felt I could go off and make my own movie. I know there are many books out there regarding movie making and probably one or two of them are pretty good...but this one I am sure is the best ever. His anecdotes supporting producing concepts are terrific and best of all they are from movies that are in the trench type of movies that most first time filmmakers would be making. I keep looking in the paper to see if Schreibman will be at another book signing because I want him to autograph my book.
