Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
In the tradition of timeless vocalists such as Anita Baker and the late Phyllis Hyman, Rachelle Ferrell is a contemporary jazz and R&B vocalist with an explosive range and an awe-inspiring delivery. On the strength of endearing ballads such as "Waiting" and "Open Arms," Ferrell's self-titled, U.S. debut made her a word-of-mouth singing sensation among "Quiet Storm" urban radio-format enthusiasts. But since the 1995 release of the sophisticated standards package First Instrument which was initially released in Japan in 1990, Ferrell has been missing in action.
Five years later, however, the six-octave wonder returns with Individuality Can I Be Me?, a mature record coproduced by the legendary George Duke that reflects the personal and artistic growth Ferrell experienced during her absence from the spotlight. Highlights include the spunky, female-solidarity anthem "Sista" and the bass-anchored breakup song "I Gotta Go." But the best showcase of Ferrell's mind-boggling vocals and painfully honest songwriting is the cathartic, piano-driven "I Forgive You," which alternately finds the skilled songbird gracefully cooing and deeply bellowing lyrics such as "What a feeling just releasing from my heart/From my mind and soul." As neo-soulster Erykah Badu once said, "This is grown folks music, y'all."
All Music Guide - Michael Gallucci
Ferrell's rich, textured voice strokes these often-formulaic songs along. Dipping into modern pop, R&B, gospel, and jazz, Ferrell paints some splendid portraits here even if she does tend to over-sing her lines occasionally. Best is the funky "Satisfied," an amalgam of everything Individuality Can I Be Me? sets out to be. A breakthrough album from a behind-the-scenes artist deserving more.

    Intelligence ,beauty and sensuality

Beautiful compilation of thought provoking music. Entire CD is extremely well done although my three personal favorites are "Reflections of my heart", "I Forgive You" and "Gaia".

    Awesome Deliverance

Rachelle Ferrell has delivered the LP with a dynamite sound. Her voice is one of a kind, hypnotic, she places you under her spell. I first heard the LP in 2001, and I searched for it, and it feels as if I've found gold. 'I forgive you' is my favorite song, it can relate to anyone who has looked beyond what happened or what didn't and move on with their life. She is a gifted and blessed artist, who deserves the credit and respect of her peers, media, and all of the music industry.

    A Needle in a Haystack

Beautiful voice, and composition with a refreshing jazzy funk sound that is a rare and lovely find in a heyday of pop and hiphop garbage.

    No words

I haven't bought the CD yet, but I saw her perform live, songs from this latest album. And I must say, that I think it is one of Rachelle's best work yet. While it is different from her previous albums, she still uses her talent in a ''funky'' way, which justs adds a special touch to this album.

    Out Beyond the Stars!

Such an awesome delivery! Passion for Life, for all, just for the attainment of dreams coming true, A soul-bird if you will! Very versatile within every note. My kind of artist, knows how to bring the note to the status of spheres of love, passion, life, upliftment of the spirit, then combine all to let you know that, in life... through song, has reality, reason, reflection, and last but not least...restoration and Celebration! Truly Beyond the Stars!!!
