Holy Mary mother of Jesus

This book was amazing. I was expecting something different, but at the end it went in such a direction that i don't think i have the imagination to dream up what he had. His writing style is like no other. He makes the characters (amongst other things) come to life. I finished it in 4 hours. Couldn't put it down.
Its not for the weak hearted i can tell you that much. The pain his main character goes through is mind blowing. The way he describes it, its almost as if you can feel it yourself. I know i got sick to my stomach a few times.
Its a must read. I heard they're making a movie. Hope they live up to its greatness.
Hopefully once you read, you will become a Sigler Junkie like me.

Sick and twisted...

This novel was sick and twisted in all the good ways. Infected is intense and violent, definately not for everyone. But if you enjoy some carnage and gore then you really need to read this book. This book hooked me from the start, and it hasn't let me go even though I have finished the wild ride. Scott Sigler is impressive. Chalk up another fan of Scott Sigler.

Woof

I've been reading for a long time. I gave up on horror, for the most part, years ago. It was just to hard to find anything worth reading in that genre.
I found Infected while looking through the E Books. It hooked me fast and never let go. The characters were pretty good and the story was incredible. Before I finished it I ordered a hard copy of this book and it's sequel Contagious. I finished Infected and couldn't wait for the hard back coming and ordered the e book version and am pausing only long enough to write this review.
If you appreciate horror, you have to get this book. Period, end of story...

Scott sure can tell a story

I listened to this story as a podcast before I bought it. Scott does such a great job with his podcasts, that I had to buy the book, too.

Not a horror junkie

I am not a horror junkie. I picked this book up because I am interested in microbiology and the Infected title caught my eye while passing by the horror section one day (on my way to the romance aisle-heh). I picked it up and devoured the book as well as the sequel when it came out. The gore is there, but I never found it to be so bad that I couldn't read it. You really get to know Scary Perry and what he faces in this novel and the sequel. I let my mom read this book and she also found it very good, and then my sister read it and she also really liked it and the sequel. All in all, for a family of non-horror readers, this book really caught us and kept us hanging on until the end.

scott is my hero!

sci fi with a biological background? yes please! everytime u think u know what will happen, prepare yourself for a shock! oh and prepare yourself to love 'Scary' Perry Dawson!

Shocking,Terrifying,and Gruesome-you must check it out!!!

It's a Horror/Scifi book about normal people infected with a parasite/alien that makes them psychotic and murderers.Perry is a Ex-College Football Player who is borderline psychotic and he's infected which pushs him over the EDGE.The author shows the beginning stages to the awful final stage that leave you breathless and wanting more...read this Infectious book!

Unique Ideas

I consider this book a Sci-Fi/Horror book. It took me a few chapters to get into the authors writing from all the jumping around that was going on, but once in I was hooked!

I don't want to give away any of the plot (you can get that from the many reviews) or describe the characters, but the ideas the author presents and the explanations are pretty unique.

Give it a shot. I've already picked up the sequel to this book.

Neosporin won't stop that itch!

Scott Sigler's Infected surprised me by being one of the best books I've read this year.

The initial chapters describe a strange virus that causes its victims to break out in a paranoid, homicidal rage. We learn that the CIA has been charged with investigating this disease and, by all means, keeping it quiet.

From there, we follow three different characters through interwoven stories: agent Dew Phillips, tasked with keeping the lid on the mystery plague; Margaret Montoya, a CDC examiner in charge figuring out what the disease is and 'Scary' Perry Dawsey, former college football star/current office drone who hasn't been feeling too well lately...

Infected was an incredible read. A masterpiece of ooey, gooey body horror (think of Eli Roth's Cabin Fever or David Cronenberg's The Fly if you aren't sure what body horror is). A fast paced, splattery and fun book that was very well written.

Sigler's characters had enough depth to them to make you care about them. When I read the synopsis I worried that having the main character be an ex-football player was going to make him a Mary Sue, but Scott is a better writer than that. 'Scary' Perry's background was essential in making the events of the book believable.

His sense of pacing was right on the money. I was constantly interested in what was going to happen next and the book had enough mysterious twists and turns that I was never able to outguess the characters or the plot.

I also appreciate the detail and research that the author did. I have no idea how plausible or accurate his details of how the disease functions are, but they rang true as I read them anyway. Occasionally I would catch him making a mistake (the CIA operating inside the U.S. for example), only to have him address this point later.

The only real problem I had with the book was that near the end it felt a little too obvious that he was setting the book up for a sequel. It didn't kill the book for me, but I think the hints should have been more subtle.

This was a book I had sitting on my shelf for over a year. I should have gotten to it sooner. Then again, I'm kind of glad I waited this long to read it as I see that the sequel, Contagious is due out in paperback in a few days.

EWWWW

If your a fan of Gross out horror, then this book if for you. This is the type of book that makes you think, "They won't go THERE, will they?" and the very next page they go there, and beyond. The writing style in this book is very effective, and make you feel for the character as you watch (painfully) his slow descent into madness, as he mutilates himself, and others to get the growing infection out himself. The basic plot of the story is an infection that uses humans as their growing ground until the infections reaches maturity, while in the proccess slowly killing the human, and we see the story from the point of view of a strongheaded ex-football player, infected with the alien.
The end of the book is a departure from the rest of the story, but it does not in anyway ruin in--- Highly Recommended for fans of the Genre, and make sure to look for the sequel in December!!

what a wild ride

Infected was a book that I couldn't wait to get home from work and read. At the same time I didn't want it to end. loved Mr. siglers style of writing. I did have a couple of nightmares. All said this was a great read. I'm hoping that Mr. sigler might decide to 're-infect' us in the future. I was also lucky enough to have him sign my book. Compliments of my sister who happened to borrow it and have it in her car when he was at a B&N booksigning. I was tickled.

Fast Moving Infection

This book starts off with a bang (literally, with a suicide) and moves at a fast clip straight through to the ending. The author drops enough hints that you should be able to figure out what's going on, and yet holds enough back that there are some surprising twists along the way. It's both science fiction and horror as well as a bit of a commentary on how the government keeps tabs on those it wants to keep tabs on. There were several times in the book where I was either surprised at the way the story turned, or angry at the characters for not doing something that would have brought them closer to understanding what was going on much earlier in the book. But then, that's the joy of reading something like this Scott Sigler, like Stephen King, has a knack for making you feel like you'd be so much smarter than the characters in the same situation. Sigler also used that 'familiar' tone of narration that King has employed so well. With such a fast pace, there's not a lot of time to get to know anyone but the main characters very well -- Dew Phillips, Margaret Montoya and especially Perry Dawsey are well-drawn and play very different roles in bringing the story to its conclusion -- but points have to be given to Sigler for at least giving some of his secondary characters (like Bill Miller and Clarence Otto) enough personality that they stand out from the masses of secondary and tertiary characters. Scott Sigler is an author to watch.

Tom Clancy meets Robin Cook and A touch of Stephen King.

In order to truly scare you, Sigler must educate you like a good Tom clancy Novel. Disease vectors, CDC and HasMat suits like Robin Cook. This is a whole new kind of writing. I've heard the original podcast and am listening to it again and even though I KNOW the plot I'm on pins and needles. This will be a great read, listen and a keeper for sure.

Sigler is a Mad Genius

Infected is one of the most gripping novels I have ever read. You'll be hooked after the first few pages. Only bad thing about this book is that you can't turn the pages fast enough. Anything by Scott Sigler is a great read. If you like to be entertained, buy this book!

This one blew me away.

OMG what a book! This story engaged me from the start. The characters were amazing. The plot was nothing short of fantastic. Here is an author
with imagination and not a bit afraid to take chances. The suspense was masterful. The author adds frustration that becomes gripping as the plot moves on. And what an ending. Here is where the real action sequence is. Very few authors make it so vivid, so real, that I could picture it, hear it as it happened. I am getting the second installment as soon as possible. Just hope it is as good as the first. I have been disappointed so often lately in sequels. This one blew me away!

All hail the dark overloard

Scott Sigler has become my favorite writer with the inclusion of his podcasts (such as Title Fight), his GFL series (Go Quentin Barnes!) and more relevant to some, Infected and Contagious. There is only one negative I can say about this book and Contagious (second in series) and that negative is that Ive been waiting 2 years for the finally (Pandemic), time well worth it for a well written book but time nonetheless. I hear I must wait atleast one more year.....
