This book is clearly written and covers its topics comprehensively. The purpose is to describe the procedures, equipment, and supplies used in infection control. The primary audience is dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students. The book features micro-organisms involving infectious diseases, supplies, procedures, equipment involved in infectious control, and sterilization techniques. Black-and-white pictures aid in comprehending the authors' points. This is an example of the best qualities of a clearly written text that provides precise explanations of sterilization procedures and techniques. This is a justifiable replacement of the previous edition.

Description: This update of a book on infection control in the dental office provides an overview of microbial organisms, control of infections and aseptic techniques, and dental office safety, as well as appendixes with CDC, ADA, and OSHA guidelines and hazardous materials management resources. First published in 1994, this book was last updated in 2010.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide the basic concepts, step-by-step procedures, and current regulatory aspects of infection control and office safety for the dental team. The objectives are worthy in light of the many changes in infection control policies and procedures, as well as the emergence of many new products and equipment. The book more than meets the author's objectives, providing a comprehensive overview of infection control in dentistry.
Audience: It is intended for students and as continuing education for members of the entire dental team. It also would be useful to other healthcare providers as it relates to the need for infection control to address current and emerging diseases in healthcare settings. The author is an authority in the area of infection control.
Features: This well-organized book covers the spectrum of infection control, including microorganisms, development of infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, hand and radiation hygiene, personal protective equipment, dental water asepsis and air quality, waste management, sharps injuries, office safety, and governmental agency policy and protocols for infection and waste management. Among the unique features are teaching aids such as learning objectives, key words, review questions, and selected readings. A glossary and appendixes assist in understanding the material. A new feature of this edition is the expanded website that includes helpful information for both faculty and students. The site provides an instructor resource manual, a test bank of 600 questions, 20 case discussions, practice quizzes, and flashcards among other resources.

    Useful textbook with great layout

    This company really knows how to get to the point. I've purchased many textbooks from Evolve and the chapters are always short and full of important information (no fluff), and good visuals. The review questions at the end of the chapters are great for self-testing...just wish they included the answers.
