Book 1 in the JUST BREATHE Trilogy

WARNING: This book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. NOT SUITABLE FOR READERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

Strangers in reality, inseparable in dreams...

After years of suffocating under her boss's scrutiny, whale biologist Zoe Morgan finally lands a job as director of a tagging project in Hervey Bay, Australia. Success Down Under all but guarantees her the promotion of a lifetime, and Zoe won't let anything--or anyone--stand in her way. Not the whale voices she suddenly hears in her head, not the ex who won't take no for an answer, and especially not the gorgeous figment of her imagination who keeps saving her from the fiery hell of her dreams.

Gavin Cassidy hasn't been called to help a human Wyldling in over a year, which is fine by him. Still blaming himself for the death of his partner, he keeps the guilt at bay by indulging in every excess his rock star persona affords. That is, until he's summoned to protect Zoe from hungry Fyre Elementals and learns his new charge is the key to restoring order in the dying Dreaming. He never expects to fall for the feisty Dr. Morgan...nor does he realize he may have to sacrifice the woman he loves to save an entire country.

*The author donates all profits from sales of the JUST BREATHE trilogy to programs that educate people about whales and the challenges they face.

Meet the Author

Kendall Grey, word wrangler, whale warrior, wicked wench, and lover of tongue-tripping alliteration, was born without an off-switch between her brain and mouth. She's been called the "Flux Capacitor of Twitter" (@kendallgrey1) and "A little package of love all wrapped up in F-word paper," but she's really just a maniacal writer relaying eyewitness accounts of the rave inside her head. She writes urban fantasy with strong romantic elements and also dabbles in erotica and horror on occasion.

Kendall lives off a dirt road near Atlanta, Georgia, but don't hold that against her.

    Romance, Elementals, and Whales!

I love whales. But I have NEVER read a book, fiction at that, where love, mystical beings, and whales come together. This book set a pace that I furiously tried to follow. You'll love the characters. You'll love the plot. And you'll love the author. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys even just one of the elements mentioned in the title. TEN THOUSAND FISTS by DISTURBED. Because there should be 10,000 fists raised in praise for this book.

FYI for those that said no, I agree, I got a finger sticking up for you.

I wish bn would ban and fine these posters that feel the overwhelming need to write long mini books in their reviews and reveal plot points and give away everything. They need to be stopped. Once again i cannot get a book because thanks to these jerks that love to ruin it for others there is no need to get the book. Thanks to all who ruined another book for me. May you rot in hell.

***This book was given to me as a gift from the author and was not purchased through Barnes and Noble***

Something strange happens to Zoe Morgan. After a dream in which she imagines a beautiful stranger rescuing her, she believes that a whale named Lily is calling for her help. She heads to Australia, hoping to find Lily. Gavin Cassidy, the beautiful stranger, is a Sentinel. Sentinels are protectors of the Dreaming, a place where Wydlings(humans) dream. They possess equal parts of each elemental power: Earth, Aire, Fyre and Waeter(no I'm not misspelling them, that's the way it is LOL.) The Fyre elementals have found a way into the Dreaming and have been stealing the Wyldlings fire. Fyres are able to steal fire by frightening the dreaming Wyldlings.

The story switches between the Dreaming and Realis(reality.) Zoe thinks that the Dreaming is just her subconscious trying to sort through her unresolved issues. She meets with Perfect(her name for Gavin) in the Dreaming. Zoe is Gavin's muse and is able to give him something that he has been missing. He knows that he cannot tell her that he exists in Realis, for she may already be in danger from their meetings. She doesn't realize is that she has a bigger part to play in order to save the Dreaming from the Fyres.

Will Zoe find the closure she is looking for with Lily?
Will Gavin live up to his responsibilities as a Sentinel?

    My thoughts....

Okay, you have an insanely hot rock star with tattoos, a lip ring and perfect, just rolled out of bed, hair. Then you have some smokin' hot Fyre elementals and not to mention whales. Where can you go wrong?!? This book was sexy, spunky and all around AWESOME!! I wanna make out with it and yell at it at the same time! This was only my second time reading about powers involving the elements and let me tell you, it was the better of the two.

Kendall created a spectacular paranormal experience with this book. This book concentrates more on the paranormal, but there is a great amount of romance....hot STEAMY romance!! Holy cow, you will need to fan yourself! I need to take a second to shine some light on a character that deserves some praise. Adriene is Zoe's best friend and crew mate. I would say she's the comic relief of the story. I hope Kendall doesn't kill me for putting this quote, but it made my day. "Did you see him looking at you? Like he wanted to devour you? That boy is hungry, and you're a f*** sandwich with a side of chips." ~Adriene

Kendall also donates the proceeds of her book sales to programs that educate people about whales and the challenges they face. I cannot being to tell you how awesome that is!

    Great Story

The synopsis of the book really does a good job describing the story. I'm lousy at reviews that include all the things that happen. So read the synopsis and you'll understand my review :o)

When I started reading Inhale, I wasn't sure I was going to get into it as much as I did. It builds the characters, so it's a bit slow going at first... but once it got going... Wow, talk about exciting! Of course, as with ALL good books, it ends with a cliffhanger. So I jumped right in and bought Exhale. Can't wait to read it!

    Inhale by Kendall Grey

Inhale is the first in the Just Breathe trilogy, and Kendall Grey really pulled me into her world of the Dreaming: a place of dreams and so much more. The characters were honest and well rounded. There was a secondary character we meet halfway through the novel that raised the question of who's side he is truly on, and that really intrigued me. Kendall's use of imagery was easy to visualize, and there were times that I could swear I heard the ocean waves lapping lazily along a beach. The story flowed smoothly and at a relatively quick pace, the further into the novel, the more intense it became, keeping me turning pages long into the night. Most of the book takes place in a dream-like state that felt completely realistic and added to the fantastical, unique storyline. I loved that the romance surrounding Zoe and Gavin was entwined with danger, it was an added bonus of tension and intrigue. I honestly would have liked a little more information about the Sentinels, Elementals and Wyldlings: their history and how they are created. But despite that little exception to my enjoyment of Inhale, this book kept me completely interested from beginning to end.

This was a truly unforgettable book!

I freaking love this book! I normally don’t start swooning over a book until the end, but I couldn’t stop talking about Inhale while I was reading it. Inhale had me captivated from the first page and I KNEW it was going to be fantastic, but by the end it passed my highest expectations. It wasn’t just fantastic – it took my breath away and I wanted more!! With Inhale’s unique, touching, profound, and captivating story it will surely keep you thinking from beginning to end. Every character in Inhale was so well done – they were like individual brush strokes on a Monet painting. Every single one was a stroke of genus adding color and beauty to the full painting. Zoe was just her with no excuses. Full of love and strength she was fearless and never second guessed herself. The world Kendall Grey created in the Just Breath series is a fantastic one. Gavin Cassidy was equally fantastic – a soul tortured with guilt that he could not let go of an oh so freaking HOT. Putting them together was volcanic. The chemistry was steamy and explosive. I loved it. I think Inhale would be a pleasure to read for a broad spectrum of readers. I really can not think of anyone that would not love this book!

Inhale is the kind of book that lingers on your mind for days. It's been a few days since I've finished reading it and I'm still captivated by this intriguing story. I had a few friends read this book and rave about it, so naturally I was anxious to read it. I didn't really know much about the story before I started reading, but I am a fan of Urban Fantasy. From the first page, I was sucked into this truly unique world of Gavin Cassidy.

I'm going to talk a bit about Gavin, because he's the first character I met. It doesn't happen to me often, but I fell hard for this guy on the first page. Seriously. I won't leak details of what exactly made my heart go pitter pat, but believe me when I say that this guy is special. He's a protector by nature and by occupation. He loves passionately and honestly. Oh...did I mention he's a Rock Star? He really is a Rock Star in a band. Even with that immediate hotness label, he truly is spectacular.

Zoe is the woman that brings Gavin back from his dark place. There is something special about Zoe and her secrets are slowly revealed throughout the book. I liked that there is mystery to her character. She has a purpose in this world of Dreaming. Zoe lives her life with compassion for others and the animals she cares for. Her connection with the whales was beautiful.

As for the relationship between Gavin and Zoe, I would say it was inevitable. There was an instant connection between them when they first meet and I hope it's not wishful thinking on my part, but in my mind they are truly meant to be together. They have so much passion and love for each other, that I can't wait to see where they go from here.

I feel that I need to voice my intense dislike for Scarlet. She is one evil wench. She makes my skin crawl. I'm not sure there would be anyone to disagree with me on that one. Not much else to say about that.

Sinnder on the other hand, I'm oddly attracted to. He's not a good guy, but I don't think he's fully on board with Scarlet either. I don't know all the facts on him yet. He's still a bit of a mystery, but boy does he ooze sex appeal. I know he plays a bigger role in the rest of the series, so I can't wait to see how his character develops and if my thoughts about him will remain the same.

I really liked the concept of the book. I like that the dream world is also a reality and that what happens there, affects the real world too. I also loved the water element. I'm drawn to water stories.

My overall thoughts are that I was completely impressed with the originality of the story. I could totally visualize the places and actions in the story. I had a really hard time putting the book down. In fact, I love this story so much, that I've re-arranged my reading schedule so I can get to Exhale sooner. I don't think you even need to be a fan of Urban Fantasy to appreciate this book. It's a beautiful and unique love story that could appeal to any adult.

    4.5 stars!
WOW! That was pretty amazing. Definitely a unique and captivating story.

Inhale is the first book in the Just Breathe trilogy written by Kendall Grey.

    The Review:
This book was very imaginative! Everything about the story sends the reader on a creative journey through what I can only describe as a fantastical tale of dreams and reality and all that lays in between. I have to admit that in the beginning, I almost put the book down from sheer confusion. I didn't understand what was going on and I couldn't wrap my head around the two separate worlds the author was trying to convey. But after the first 80 or so pages, I got into the rhythm and fell in love with this story! And just a note, there is a glossary at the end of the book that has definitions for all the terms used in this book, which I wish I'd known about before diving in. My suggestion, read that glossary first.

Now, as for the story itself, like I said, very creative, imaginative, original and packed full of action. There really wasn't a dull moment on any of the pages. The author does a terrific job leading the reader from Realis, (the waking world) to The Dreaming, (a parallel world where humans to go dream). The descriptions were visually striking and eloquently illustrated. I also adored the whale aspect of this story and you don't have to be a whale enthusiast to understand its importance. I think the content will enlighten and educate as well as entertain.

The character's were well designed and riveting. I quickly become immersed in the different types. Archelementals, Elementals, Sentinels, Human Wyldlings and Animals and then their different specialties. Aer, Fyre, Erthe and Wæter. It was fascinating!

Zoe and Gavin were beguiling together and their complicated romance, scorching! I loved that though they had a destiny, they both had exciting but normal lives outside The Dreaming. It lead a bit of normalcy to the aberrant.

There were many amazing characters in this story but I want to hit on a note for three of my favorites other then the mains (Zoe and Gavin). I admired Yileen. His friendship with Gavin, the way he insinuated himself quietly into Zoe's world and his calming demeanor was a welcome relief from the intensity of the other Elementals. Sinnder, I hope we get more of him in the next book because I think he's got more going on and definitely has ulterior motives for his all the things he's doing. Scarlet?!? That Fyre needs a cold shower... literally! Ugg!

    The Wrap Up:
Getting past the confusion of the world building (which I think can be circumvented by reading the glossary first), this book was pretty spectacular. It was definitely a thrilling escape from the normal every day book. I loved the story. I loved the characters, their exciting journey and the romance. I loved all the inspired and ingenious ideas I was introduced to and I can't wait to dig into book two, Exhale and then on to book three, Just Breathe when it comes out in August. There was plenty of room left for the story to continue with unanswered questions and a hint of things to come. What a mind-blowing fantasy to become immersed in.

NOTE: I read this as a R2R with The Knights of the Round Table at Goodreads. As always, a special thank you to the mods and author for allowing me to participate.

    Dreamy

Did not know what to think as i beganto read. I was confused about the dream world and the realis (the real world). But as i read on i grew familiar with the conection between the two. The mystical and sexual force between the two main characters werebeautifully descrbed by the author. I love that zoe is a marine biologist with a special empathy with whales. The bad boy rock star is of course out of this world sexy and is actually a super human destined to protect zoe and zoe is meant to strenghten him emotionally and physically. Zoe's friend, adrienne is warm and full of mischievious humor. Just what zoe needs as she tends to be overly analytical. Also the fyre element, sinndor is quite intriguing. There is more to him that meets the eye. So of course i'm buying the next book!

Inhale is hot, sexy, and truly original! The world-building is amazing and the attention to detail is incredible. Kendall Grey entrances readers with her story-telling ability. Both the main protagonists Zoe and Gavin are hard not to like. Especially the stubborn and strong-willed Zoe Morgan whose fierce loyalty is completely endearing. Gavin is a piece of work and I mean that in the best of ways; he's insanely attractive and an Aussie no less! But his transformation from hard time partier to committed to his duty is what I loved most from his character. The growth and pace of the story is nicely executed. Everything about this book felt new and refreshing - one of the most important ingredients most authors fail to achieve, but not this one! But beware this is no YA read it has explicit language, sex, and violence that's not intended for readers under the age of 18. Keeping that in mind Inhale is a terrific start to what is positive to be a very fiery trilogy!

Zoe Morgan is a whale biologist and for the first time ever she gets the opportunity to head up her own project in Hervey Bay, Australia. But every night when she falls asleep she ends up in a dream world where there are fiery monsters bent on harming her. As she wanders this dreaming world a flawless stranger keeps saving her from these fire-wielding beasts. He's perfect but he's only a figment of her imagination and waking up becomes what she least looks forward to. But just as these strange recurring dreams happen Zoe starts questioning her sanity when she winds up in unexplainable situations in reality. Gavin Cassidy is a rock star and also an Elemental Sentinel whose job is to protect and watch over a Wydling in the Dreaming (the Dream World). As he observes and gets to know Zoe in this otherworldly realm he starts to fall for her and that's a dangerous thing he cannot afford and neither can she. Together these two strangers may just be able to stop these hellish beasts from taking over the Dreaming and real world.

The world that's created is richly creative and utterly fascinating. I love how whales are integrated into the story and the significance of them. Kendall Grey infuses the real life problems that the whale community faces and addresses those issues with a strong stance on their protection. Inhale offers a greatly entertaining story with an important message intertwined. The writing and story plot are well done, the world-building is excellent, the characters are realistic, and lastly the romance is scorching hot! Hardly anything about Inhale can go into the dislike column, it'll leave you completely breathless for the sequel!

    THIS BOOK BLEW ME AWAY!!

This book is a wonderfully original idea. I read so much, and so many times story lines are so similar they get lost in one another. NOT THIS BOOK!! It is definitely one of a kind.

It is wonderfully sexy (definitely NOT for young adult). Not only that, but it is very well edited and the characters are all well developed. I will say that the shorts that go along with this series were also very helpful in filling you in on some back-stories of some of the main characters. I cannot wait to start book 2. Hope it is as well written as this.

Thank you so much Ms. Grey for this story. Can't wait to read more. Maybe I can dream a little too!!!

Most people have different standards for free books than they do

Most people have different standards for free books than they do books for which they pay. I often see reviews which state “not bad for a free book”, and I think that's fair. I'm more willing to forgive a book for a few plot or grammatical errors if I didn't have to blow my whole book allowance on it. I read Inhale as a free book and find it has a better story and higher quality writing than others for which I've paid. Whichever scale you want to use, you won't be disappointed in Inhale.

This story is a combination of rock star fantasy, save the world heroes, and elemental magic. It will especially appeal to those who love all things Aussie or who have a fondness for whales. It has hot dream sex scenes and the action keeps moving. There is love and emotion without getting too sappy although clearly the whole situation is not reality based. The end wraps up nicely leaving the reader satisfied while still dangling a few loose ends for the next book in the series. This isn't an obsessive read which keeps you up all night until you finish, but is a book you'll happily dive back into when you have a chance.

Some book listings contain warnings about graphic language and sex and advise this book is not for readers under 18. Figures vary from study to study and from country to country, but anywhere from 25% to over 35% of teenagers have lost their virginity by the age of 16. So both sites are advising teenagers not to read about things many of them are already doing. I can't help but think the warning would only encourage the remaining virgins to check it out anyhow. All I can say is explicit terms were used and neither of the main characters had to declare their undying love or get engaged before they got busy. That smacks more of reality than a dream. While the author didn't shy away from sex, neither was it overly titillating.
