The Montgomery Ink series continues with a forbidden love between three friends and a past that they can’t escape.
Jake Gallagher knew from the moment he saw Maya that she was the one for him—it had the same breath-taking intensity as when he’d first set eyes on Border. Only life never turns out the way one plans, and now he’s falling for someone else...or at least he thinks he is.
Maya Montgomery never should have looked past the friendship she already had. Now that she has, she can’t stop thinking about Jake and what he means to her. When a mysterious stranger from Jake’s past shows up at their door, she’s forced to admit that if she doesn’t take the risk of a lifetime, she’ll regret it for the rest of her days.
Border Gentry walked away without a second glance once because of what could happen if he let go, but now he’s back and ready to see what he’s missed. He’s been on the road a long time and has seen things no man should ever see, yet once he rediscovers the broody Jake and meets the inked and fierce Maya, they’re like a balm to his soul and he realizes what path his future should take.
It will take more than sizzling chemistry and a heat that never dies for the three of them to overcome their pasts. And when someone from the outside wants to stand in their way, it’s not only their hearts on the line…but also their lives.

Finally we get Maya and Jake’s story. It seems they were just waiting for the right time and a big guy named Border. This is a sweet and sexy story. I was a little disappointed that Maya lost some snark but I guess a life in turmoil will do that to a girl. Carrie Ann Ryan takes us down a somewhat angsty path to a fun conclusion. I want my own Jake and Border. Maya has her work cut out for her but oh the benefits.

This is my all time favorite in this series ! I loved Maya and Jake's friendship through the Montgomery series. I was very excited to see if they would finally stop dancing around their true feelings for each other. Border was a great addition to Maya and Jake's relationship. I can't wait for the rest of the stories of all the siblings on all sides! Great book Carrie . You truly outdone yourself with this story! Loved it!

LOVE this book!! Really enjoyed reading Maya story with Jake & Border. Like that the book isn't the typical man & woman romance. Once I got the book I could not put it down. I have read all the Montgomery books and Carrie Ann Ryan is a great author. Can not wait for the next Montgomery book with Alex and Tabby.

Jake Gallagher had a life before Maya Montgomery-a life that included Border Gentry, his work, his family…but nothing that engaged his whole heart. Jake and Border were best friends, occasional lovers and in love with each other—only they never told each other or anyone else, and when Border left town he took a piece of Jake’s heart with him, breaking his own in the process. Border left to protect Jake, and Jake protected his heart. Then Jake met Maya. Maya Montgomery was having the time of her life at the bar when she felt his eyes on hers across the room. Jake watches Maya having a good time, he is entranced by all that she is…and for the first time in a while, he begins to let go the pain of Border’s leaving—and encounters the promise of Maya in his future. After the most explosive foreplay I have ever read, Jake and Maya are interrupted and life gets in their way. Three months after their initial meeting, they are reunited and become best friends for the next 13 years…until things change, and Border comes home. Border Gentry has had enough of living life on the fringes of Jake’s world, protecting others and their families when all he wants to do is come in from the cold, and be in the same room with Jake once more. Through the years Border has kept in contact with Jake and through Jake, Border knows about Maya—and the importance of her presence in not only Jake’s life, but if Border comes back…his as well. He wants her to color his bleak existence, and hopes that she can be the bridge between him and Jake—but fate has other plans. Maya Montgomery has been the longtime beacon of light in the ever-expanding Montgomery family, and with her customary wit, honesty and heart, becomes the glue that holds the Border/Maya/Jake relationship together. Maya has an ability to go straight to the heart of any matter, and this book is no different. From the first moment Border met Maya in person—it was game on. I loved how these three came together, how the author made the entire relationship authentic. Carrie Ann Ryan is an excellent wordsmith, and has managed to create a world where the Montgomery’s exist, and do so in a way that allows us to care for each couple (or Triad), individually and as part of the Montgomery whole. This book could have easily been 400 pages or more, but because Ms. Ryan has Maya as a lead (and Maya as we know gets straight to the heart of ANY matter!), there isn’t a great deal of will they or won’t they confront their feelings—instead there is an outright acknowledgement of what is going on, and how they are going to proceed forward. God….that is SOOO refreshing! I have enjoyed quite a few books by this author and heartily recommend that you pick up one and read it today. Yes most of her books are linked together in a series of some sort…but don’t let that deter you---every single book is a TRUE standalone, and you can pick up any book (or read them out of order) and not get lost in the series. Ryan is awesome like that. Go give one of her books a try… you will not regret it! Oh… and before I forget, yes—I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. So I did…give an honest review I mean. Hope you enjoy it!

Just love the whole Montgomery Ink series. Have read every book, novellas in between and all, but this one really got me because Carrie Ann put saga of three lovers in soft context. The turmoil between the guys is more than there is when Maya is in the mix and therefore it calls for a much more sexy and easier to take story. I'm not into this top of relationship, but enjoyed the read and the way Carrie Ann put the whole story much nicer, there was sexy and sex scenes without being super graphic and taking away from the story line. Loved the Inks and can't wait for the next. Already pre-ordered and paid. I also love the paranormals...The Redwood and Talon Packs...these are also must reads of hers. Carrie Ann never fails to bring readers in with the passion, sensuality of her story lines....she never fails to make the characters pop off the page....all her books are a must and an absolute treat to read!!

Maya and Jake have been friends for a long time. They had one night together and then they’ve been best friends. Now they lines are blurring and then Jakes first love comes back and everything changes. I honestly don’t have much to say about this book other than the fact this book was interesting. Overall very good. I enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I loved it. Maya has been one of my favorite characters in this series and her story is so heartwarming and hot I could not put it down. It is book 5 in the series and has an AWESOME HEA. Jake has been friends with Maya from the day he meet her and has loved her just as long but it was never meant to be... or is it. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Love this family.

Series is become stale. Tried of reading books were the author doesn't stay with the main characters of that book and begins a new series right in the middle of the book.

The premise of this book was a good one, but the constant second-guessing was most annoying. Two men in love who had been apart for years, decide to only "talk" when they finally are alone! What is that about? Instead of banging each other on the closest wall, they blame each other for who walked away first. Not hot, at all! Rather boring, in fact. This author needs to branch out. Add a story about a Dom., a bad boy biker, a "hot" menage', and write text that isn't as vanilla as a high school prom night!
