Overview

Inside Design Now takes the pulse of American design in the new millennium, providing a fascinating tour of cutting-edge trends in architecture, interiors, landscape, fashion, graphics, and new media.
Featuring eighty emerging and established designers including 2 x 4, Mike Mills, Peter Eisenman, Fuse Project, Tod Machover, Paula Scher, Jennifer Siegal, and Isaac Mizrahi Inside Design Now illustrates the most innovative and provocative thinking in design today. Each designers work is presented with a double-page spread and a series of full-color images. Essays explore the role of the designer in todays culture, contemporary ideas of beauty and functionality, and what the future holds in the realm of design.
Sensuous materials, lush patterns, and exquisite details come together with new technologies, pop imagery, and fresh approaches to scale, color, and construction in the works reproduced in this volume.
Inside Design Now accompanies the exhibition of the same name at the Cooper Hewitt Museum of National Design beginning in April 2003.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The National Design Triennial is a multidisciplinary exhibition that highlights contemporary design in the United States and is presented by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Curated by prominent figures in each of their respective fields, the exhibition and this book (on the second triennal) feature 80 leading practitioners of architecture, interior design, landscape design, graphic design, fashion, film, new media, and iconoclasts. The book is filled with images from the artists and studios that shape the world around us: retail environments, typefaces, publications, furniture, and products. The readers to whom this exhibition will appeal are as broad as the disciplines that it covers. This highly decorative book offers a wealth of visuals, and bite-sized editorial commentary (each artist/firm gets a spread) makes for easy reading. Anyone who had an opportunity to see the first triennial or its corresponding book, Design Culture Now, will have a good idea of what to expect. Similar in theme to Ellen Lupton's Mixing Messages: Graphic Design in Contemporary Culture, it is recommended for graphic design collections in large public and academic libraries.-Phil Hamlett, Turner & Assocs., San Francisco Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
