    Inside Figure Skating

I flipped through the reprint of this book at the store recently, hoping to see changes to some of the biased statements and to see negative comments about certain skaters' fans removed (which IMO have no place in any book representing itself to be a history of skating in the first place). It's a true shame that the reprinting of this book did not correct any of the blatant bias and some of the inaccurate statements that were made in this book. As the reviewer below wrote, to each their own, and everyone's tastes are different, but if you are searching for a well-researched, unbiased, objective skating book, you will DEFINITELY want to keep looking and should pass this one by.

Ugh -- this book was just awful. My biggest regret is purchasing it at the cover price when it came out, although buying it on sale would still have been a pretty big waste of my money. I don't mind if authors want to pen a book on a sport based solely on their opinion and not on facts, but to pass off one's opinion as the absolute truth and fact is just plain wrong IMO. For a much, much better tome on the history of the sport with 'insider' perspective, check out the Official Book of Figure Skating that was published by the USFSA. Sure, there are some small errors in the book, but no more than in Inside Figure Skating, and 'Official Book' has quotes and stories from almost every major skating star from the early 1900s to today.

    Nice cover, disappointing book!

I am an avid skating fan and I was not impressed.

This is a good, fair book

This book is fair. Some people are just fanatics who think it is never fair to say anything less than worshipful of Michelle Kwan or to say that someone deserved to win over her. To recommend a Christine Brennan book instead is outrageous. She is the epitome of one-sided trashy tabloid writing, whose greatest target of abuse was Tara Lipiski.

    Well written and beautifully illustrated

This book is a refreshing change from the tabloid style of skating journalism, typified by the writing of Christine Brennan, that has held sway in this sport since the Tonya-Nancy fiasco. The writing is insightful and well-balanced, while the pictures alone are probably worth the modest price of the book. If you value unbiased, thoughtful journalism then you'll enjoy this book. If you prefer your skating writing to be of the 'National Enquirer' variety, then you'll probably prefer the books written by Christine Brennan - to each his or her own.
