Description: This book discusses the additional mental tools athletes need to be successful in their sport when the playing field is equal physically. Motivation, self confidence, dealing with anxiety, attaining and remaining concentrated to keep a competitive edge are all illustrated.
Purpose: The aim of this book is to provide athletes, coaches, and team managers with a structured and theoretically grounded approach to developing the psychological aspects of training and competition. This book is good for setting the basis for preparing athletes mentally, not only during practices and training, but also for competition.
Audience: The book is aimed at athletes, coaches, and team managers, according to the author. Anyone who deals with athletes could benefit from reading it.
Features: The book addresses the mental groundwork that athletes must do to achieve success at a higher level. Motivation is a big factor for athletes and this book addresses this topic thoroughly. The strategies discussed throughout the book may be elementary or merely groundwork for elite athletes with previous mental coaching as a part of their training, but there are some different strategies and theories presented that could result in a higher level of success for elite athletes.
Assessment: This is a useful tool for training athletes mentally for practices and competitions. The illustrations, applications, and examples made me pause to reflect on the many ways to apply these tools.
