Description: This book is a new addition to the various tools available online to the mental health professional. The author is a pioneer and expert in this area.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a valuable reference to mental health professionals on the growing number of resources available on the Internet. The book draws on the author's expertise and starts with the basics of the applications available online and extends to sites on disorders, employment opportunities, professional associations, etc. The book provides the URLs of the various sites and describes the sites in fair detail. This is a very useful addition to the available resources and the book largely meets its overall objective.
Audience: Although the book is a valuable resource to anyone in the mental health arena, including students, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists, it is primarily targeted towards psychologists.
Features: This book explains the terminology of the Internet and describes the various sites based on disorders, employment, professional associations, therapy, etc. Each site has a star rating system and a description.
Assessment: This is a very useful addition and an easy to read book on the available resources online for mental health professionals. It provides resources to answer everyday clinical and research questions we have.

Meet the Author

John M. Grohol, PsyD, built the mental health section of drkoop.com and was the cofounder and director for nearly 4 years of Mental Help Net, at one time among the top 10 most-trafficked mental health Web sites. He also served as chief operating officer of HelpHorizons.com, an e-therapy services provider. Now living in the Boston area, Dr. Grohol was trained and educated as a clinical psychologist at Nova Southeastern University.
