Overview

Four mini workshops with 24 patterns and spectacular photography in this compilation help knitters think creatively, find inspiration in their surroundings, and shape those elements into garment design. Stunning patterns are arranged by season, reflecting the colors and beauty of nature that inspire feminine designs. From an amber-beaded cardigan that captures the feeling of hay fields drying in the sun to a long, belted coat with a spray of coral roses inspired by flowers in local markets to an intarsia jacket that evokes memories of a fall hike in a forest, each pattern is rich with color, detailing, and romantic knitting style. The design workshops throughout this guidebook challenge knitters to find inspiration in their surroundings, build color palettes, swatch creatively through knitting and sketching, and finesse their style and fit.

These sweater patterns-and they are primarily all sweaters, blouses, halter tops, or something like that-are just beautiful to look at, lush and finely detailed. The details are exquisite.

This book is wonderfully presented, beautifully photographed, and well written. Will certainly become a core to a knitter's design library.

KLIATT - Nola Theiss
This collection of sweaters will not only inspire experienced knitters to explore new stitches, new techniques, new colors and new shapes, but it will also release them from feeling that they must follow the pattern stitch for stitch. The author, a longtime knitter, has had no art or design education, but much experience in seeking inspiration from nature and her surroundings. She has found inspiration in the four seasons and intersperses four design workshops among the sweaters. These workshops are titled "Finding Inspiration," "Building a Color Palette," "Swatching and Sketching" and "Styling and Fitting," but the instructions for each sweater also include ways to change the design to make the sweater right for the knitter. The actual sweaters are not like sweaters one is likely to find in a store or most knitting books. They are avant-garde and old-fashioned, unique and derivative, simple and complex, sometimes all at the same time. The fitting chart and the glossary of stitches and techniques will be helpful, but these patterns are in general only for the experienced or adventurous knitter. The illustrations and photographs are beautifully done and the bibliography and sources of supplies will be very useful to the knitter for these designs and their own original ones. What People are saying about this

Brenda Dayne
Stunning. . . . This is some of the loveliest, most innovative work I've seen in a quite a while. It's a rare book that contains multiple patterns that I love enough to knit. Rarer still that one arrives in which I want to knit everything. (Brenda Dayne, host, Cast On: a podcast for knitters)
