Doody's Review ServiceReviewer:
Description: This second edition provides a comprehensive compendium of general clinical medical knowledge required for part 2 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination.
Purpose: This book provides a concise and easily readable review of the high-impact fact list for exam preparation. It reviews all of the different clinical specialties, presenting the knowledge necessary for the provision of patient care under supervision.
Audience: Medical students and foreign medical graduates preparing for the USMLE Step 2 clinical sciences examination will find this useful.
Features: Essential information for exam success is presented in a concise format, with key points bulleted and highlighted for easy reading. The lack of illustrations and diagrams, however, decreases the visual impact of the text.
Assessment: The concise and well-presented format of this book provides an easily readable review for the Step 2 of the USMLE. It provides the clinical medical knowledge essential for the provision of patient care under supervision. In an effort to be comprehensive, however, certain areas are too detailed. Because instructions for the USMLE Step 2 examination include an emphasis on health promotion and prevention, it is surprising this subject does not warrant a separate chapter in this book. It is necessary reading for all students attempting this exam without recent clinical sciences exposure and for those who have not organized their own medical school notes into a concise and easily readable format.
