Editorial Reviews

Wooden Boat
Brings the science and the sky together so the reader can see exactly what the skies portend.
Latitudes & Attitudes
This small book is packed with easy to follow info on how to determine what's coming when it comes to weather. It's easy to use and full of color photos illustrating types of weather fronts and what they will bring.
Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society
The author of this guide is both a meteorologist and a sailor, and here he provides practical explanations, tables, and instructive photographs of cloud formations to help outdoor enthusiasts read the skies, assess their chances of being caught in a storm, and judge how severe the storm is likely to be. Among the hazards covered are strong winds, intense heat, thunder, lightning, avalanches, snow and hail storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, and waterspouts
Lin Pardey
I have a favorite little book-Instant Weather Forecasting, by Alan Watts-that I have to replace every four or five years because of overuse. Almost every time we go to sea, we spend time looking at its color photos of different types of clouds and comparing them to the clouds we see above us. Then we carefully read Watts's analysis of what the clouds portend.
