I loved the story of Linc and Serena. Linc is awestruck from their first meeting and hires her immediately. He owns and operates an escort service. Did I mention that she's a virgin? This isn't your typical virgin read. The story is enticing and engaging. While she is at "work" bar tending parties where the girls inevitably hook up, she is labeled untouchable by Linc. His possessiveness and protectiveness in done in such a way that I practically melted. There is some jealousy and childish antics played out by some of the girls because Linc has always been unattainable and is now completely smitten.  If you haven't read this book, you need to. It's a refreshing take on a old premise with new twists that'll make your heart glow. I've re-read it and recommended it several times.

I LOVED IT!!! I have to admit that the initial meeting between Serena and Linc had me a little wary. Linc's reaction to Serena came off as creepy, in my opinion, but as the tale was told, his actions toward her made perfect sense and were transformed from "Ew" to "Endearing." The whole story, which was written almost entirely from Serena's point-of-view, was very easy to read. That is, the plot was intriguing and the unraveling mysteries kept me turning the virtual pages DYING to know what happened next! The dialogue was very realistic, and I could easily "hear" the conversations being had. The overall narration was an excellent balance of "trendy-slang-speak" and "proper-thoughtful-reverence." As a result of Linc's actions, I was almost in tears near the end. He is one of my favorite heroes, and I cannot WAIT to read more of him! While the book didn't really end on a cliffhanger, the story is continued in the next book, SERENITY, which I will most definitely be reading!!! ***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

5 star This is Serena and Lincoln (aka: Linc)’s story. Serena is working 3 jobs and just barely scraping by. She takes a job expecting one thing and gets another. Linc wants her for himself. They spend time together and get to know each other. They also learn each other’s every desire. Lots of passion flies around these two. But can they really come together when secrets or still being hidden? What about the other woman who are always trying to get Linc’s attention. Will he choose one of them over her? This book has some twists and turns that will suck you in and keep you reading until the end. I recommend this book.

Serena is down on her luck. When her friend Mylaynee tells her about her job as an escort, Serena is skeptical at first. But being in debt doesn’t give you a lot of choices. She takes her friend up on the job offer and becomes a bartender working for Linc. Everything is smooth sailing, but when the boss starts to show interest in Serena, some of the girls don’t like her to much, but what they don’t know is she can hold her own. This story is fast paced and jealousy packed. The drama in it is good and had me rooting for Serena. She didn’t take any crap from nobody. There were a few times I wanted to slap her because she let certain things slide with Linc that you just do not let slide. There was no confrontation what so ever. She’s loyal to a fault and was a hard worker. I really enjoyed this book, but I also think there is a conspiracy going on. This is the third book I read in a row that had a cliff hanger. What the heck is going on? I have to wait for fall, I don’t have that much patience. I really need to know what is going to happen next with Serena and Linc. I don’t think that’s to much to ask for.

Once I read the synopsis for this story I knew I had to read it. From the first page to the last I got well-paced storytelling, with a bit of suspense and romance surrounding a compelling main couple. It's a book full of emotional ups and downs with a few unexpected twists and turns along the way to HFN. Serena is at the lowest point in her life after her grandmother dies leaving insurmountable medical debts. With no family, few friends, and working too much for too little has she opts to work for an escort service her friend Mylaynee tells her about. Having no sexual experience doesn't stop her, but it's a beacon to the agency owner who proclaims her exclusively his as he pulls her into a whirlwind relationship full of secrets and sensuality. Serena is an admirable woman willing to sacrifice all for those she cares about. Her friendship with Mylaynee is truly supportive and easy to relate to. Though her connection to Lincoln is quick to form the actual relationship evolves slowly with scenes teeming with sensuality but very little sex. Serena was a bit naive early on, letting the situation with B.B. drag on too long and not demanding more answers from Lincoln, but she was still admirable for making her own way. Lincoln was an intriguing character full of secrets and a painful past he's not quick to divulge. He may run an escort service, but he's not your stereotypical owner as he wants the girls to be in charge of their own lives. He's immediately drawn to Serena and claims her for himself while taking the time to truly get to know her. He's sexy and engaging but not perfect as he has business dealings that could jeopardize his burgeoning relationship with Serena. It all makes for a relationship surprising in its low steam quotient but full of ups and downs due to secrets yet to be revealed. This was a pleasant tale from a new-to-me author that shows some talent and creativity for not taking the expected path. The main characters are compelling with a connection that blossomed on an emotional and personal level instead of just being sexual. Though there's a definitive ending to this story, there's definitely more on the horizon for these two very different people and I'm looking forward to where Linc's past will take them in the future.

Entertaining, a little steam Favorite Quotes: “Often, the unplanned, spontaneous deeds were the type that brought immeasurable joy and in some instances, instilled hope.   “Five weeks from now, April first, I’d be twenty-two.  If the date didn’t speak volumes about my life, I didn’t know what did.” “Double Damn.  This man needed his own freaking calendar.” My Review: This book is not what I expected after reading the synopsis – it was considerably better.  This is the only book I found listed for C.C. Koen, so my expectations were nonexistent.  I have learned that reading indie authors can be a crap shoot – some are actual crap, some are diamonds the rough, Intensity is a polished sapphire.  Ms. Koen held my interest and kept me guessing.  The story is actually rather tame, considering it is about a grieving and financially strapped young woman who is also a virginal wallflower and bookworm, who takes employment as a bartender at a sex club to pull herself out of debt.  The story was interesting and unique, the writing flowed smoothly, and the characters were varied and likable, well most of them anyway.  It ended rather abruptly, although thankfully, without a dreaded cliffhanger - hate those!  But there is apparently more to come in the series, which seems to be the trend these days.

First off, when I signed up to review this book there wasn’t anything stating that it was the first book in the series. Fortunately Ms. Koen has written Intensity without ending it with a cliffhanger, but rather she ended it in such a way that although Serena and Linc’s story is not finished I was left feeling satisfied with this chapter in their lives. The author left me wanting the next book in the series so that I can see how their relationship continues to play out and the unresolved plotlines play out, but without leaving me anxious about an unexpected ending. I enjoy series in which the books play out over years and show how the characters’ lives and relationships develop. My other issue is that I really don’t understand why Linc is so enamored with Serena. I know that sounds awful, as if to say she’s not good enough for him, but that’s not what I’m saying because I really like Serena’s character. Maybe it’s because the book is told strictly from Serena’s point of view and/or maybe I lapsed into a bit of speed reading, but I don’t recall anything revealed within the book that explains why he is the way he is with her. Unless we’re expected to chalk it up to love at first sight because when Serena first meets Linc at her interview he takes a measuring look at her, makes a move on her – which she rebuffs – then kisses her and declares her exclusive to him. This would leave one to believe that it may be lust at first sight, but we are well past the halfway point of the book before they have sex despite several opportunities previously. All that said, I loved the way that Linc treated Serena – his protectiveness and possessiveness. It’s apparent by his actions that he cherishes her and he clearly comes to love her, but I missed out on the forming of that connection.  Regardless of my seemingly complaint-filled review, I really did enjoy Intensity. I like Ms. Koen’s style of writing as it keeps the flow of the story moving and makes for a quick and easy read. Despite being about an escort club, there is actually very little sex in the book. But there is plenty of sexual tension and a few cat fights that left me cheering for Serena. The author also gives us an unexpected bit of action and adventure that had me on the edge of my seat as I waited to find out how it would play out. As mentioned, this is the first book in the series and Ms. Koen does an excellent job of introducing story threads for the next book but doing it in such a way that I want to know what happens next but I wasn’t left hanging. I am looking forward to the release of Serenity so that I can join Serena and Linc on the next part of their journey.  I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.  Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

“Intensity” C. C. Koen Serena is a 22 year old college dropout who is working three jobs just to make ends meet. She left college after her Grandmother took ill with cancer so she could take care of her until she passed. After her grandmother died, Serena was confronted with a lot of debt and the mortgage in default. Try as she may, she could not save the house and is now living in a small apartment in a questionable neighborhood. While working at her waitressing job, one of her customers tells her that she knows a way that Serena can make more money than she ever could as a waitress. She leaves her card notating to call if she wants to hear more about the job. Serena’s curiosity and mountain of bills get the better of her so she meets with the woman. When the woman tells Serena that she should work as an escort, she immediately gets up to walk away. However, she quickly returns when the girl explains that she has the right to decide, what, if anything, she wants to do with a client; and how much money she can make in a week. After talking with the woman, she agrees to an interview. Wearing her best second-hand outfit, she goes to the interview and immediately is approached by a hot looking guy who turns out to be her new boss, Linc. After some pointed questions, she is hired with the stipulation that she is exclusive to only him. She can do or go anywhere she likes, but she must end the evening in his bed. Serena does not understand what an exclusive is and why he makes her have one with him. She does not have the any experience with men, and is shocked that he dictates to her that she must be in his bed. The offer is both intimidating and alluring at the same time. She instinctually feels that he won’t harm her, and she needs the money, so she accepts the job. Linc runs an escort service for men who pay to spend time with his girls. The girls fill out a questionnaire regarding what they are willing to do. This allows him to match the client to the escort. He rents out the apartments in the building and ensures that each girl has what she needs. When he meets Serena, he is stunned by her beauty and blindly demands that she will only bartend, live in one of the apartments for free, and return to his bed every night. There is something about her that calls to his very soul. Although he does not feel worthy of her, he cannot deny the feelings he has for her. Soon, they develop strong feelings for each other. They both want more; but have their reasons for not letting their hearts and bodies overrule their minds. My thoughts: Intensity is a fitting word for this book. At first, I laughed as the two main characters butted heads. Serena refused to obey any order from Linc, which infuriated him. She is her own woman and although she starts to fall in love with him, she does not go blindly into a relationship or allow him to break her heart. She always remains true to herself. Whether fighting with other women, or fighting off other men, she stands up for herself. Serena may not realize her beauty, but she does know who she is, and refuses to be bullied by anyone. She and Linc are very hot together. There kisses alone would melt a candle. I enjoyed every minute of this book. The tension between these two characters is palpable. Just when I thought they might finally take the plunge, I was left disappointed but intrigued to read what next. I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more. Disclosure: I was provided an ARC from the publisher through Net Galley in return for an honest review.
