Overview

Imagine losing what you love most.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you . . .

The woman gives her name as Betty. No last name. No phone number. Just a meeting place – a deserted, wooded park on the outskirts of Lake Tahoe. The retainer is a healthy one. The one condition – come alone. San Francisco attorney Kali O’Brien understands client confidentiality, but something about Betty’s urgent request has her a little spooked. Whatever secrets the woman is hiding must be very incriminating – and very dangerous – to demand such privacy.

But Kali never gets that information. The moment Betty meets with Kali, she’s shot and killed by a sniper, and Kali barely escapes with her life. She’s left with more questions than answers. Why did the woman go to such lengths to ensure secrecy? What is important enough to protect at such cost? And then there’s the last thing Betty every said – a cryptic phrase that leads Kali to another unsolved case – the mysterious disappearance of a woman eight years earlier.

As Kali get closer to discovering the truth, a killer is right behind her, anticipating her every move, waiting for her to play into his very lethal hands . . .

    Excllent thriller

San Francisco attorney Kali O¿Brien goes the extra mile for a woman she only knows as Betty when she agrees to meet her in a deserted park near Lake Tahoe. Betty was very insistent on client confidentiality and privilege, making sure that Kali was paid with an anonymous money order so that privilege would cover their first meeting. When Kali and Betty finally meet, they only have time to exchange pleasantries before shots ring out.
When Kali wakes up in the hospital, she learns that Betty is dead. The police identify the victim as Betty Arnold, the niece of Faith Foster, a high school teacher who disappeared eight years ago and is presumed dead. Unable to let matters rest, Kali does some sleuthing and discovers that Betty had found proof Faith is alive but is living under an assumed name. She knows that people are trying to find her and once again goes on the run, hoping to shake the determined killer on her trail. Kali is determined to learn why Faith is on the run and bring her out of the cold.
Jonnie Jacobs raises the bar on crime thrillers with her latest work INTENT TO HARM. The heroine is what every lawyer should be, a person who takes care of her client even when that individual is no longer alive. This is an action-packed thrill-a-minute novel that doesn¿t shortchange the audience on character development. Told from the perspective of the killer, the protagonist and the victim, readers know at all times what is going on in the minds of the main characters leading to a fine time for the audience.
Harriet Klausner

    Couldn't put it down

When I casually checked this book out from the library I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. Loved all the twists and turns and unexpected surprises! I will be looking for all her other books.

kept me reading into the night

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, and this is one of the best. There are lots of plots twists and surprises, interesting characters, and several stories that are smoothly interwoven and come together in the end. I was hooked from the beginning, which starts with a bang, literarly, when Kali is shot and her client is killed without telling Kali the big secret she'd promised to share.
