This thematically arranged short-essay reader emphasizes the reading-writing connection, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. The diverse readings are selected from a variety of genres for their currency, readability, high interest level, and cultural diversity. Presented within a unifying framework of personal identity, the selections lead students from a consideration of the self to an awareness of how the self interacts with other people and phenomena.
