Purpose: The interactive format is suitable for review of intraoperative TEEs. The numerous video clips provide appropriate examples. The accompanying text answers for the questions as well as the outline review materials are helpful. For the cardiac surgeon, this is a useful learning tool.
Audience: The CD-ROM is suitable for the education of cardiology fellows and review for practicing cardiologists. For others who are involved directly in the care of cardiac patients, e.g., cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists, this is also useful for self education and review. The authors are respected in the field.
Features: The content is divided into 31 chapters, covering everything from the fundamentals of echocardiography to assessment of valvular diseases and evaluation of surgical interventions, including endovascular procedures. The outline provides ready access to specific topics, succinctly covering key points in each topic. There are links to graphics and videos from the outline topics. Self-guided study can also be approached through a question-and-answer format. The answers also have links to the appropriate videos. Testing of one's knowledge is easy to achieve in the test mode. The three different methods to access the information on this disk provide users with a choice for the method most suitable for their individual learning needs.
Assessment: This is a useful tool for review and self-testing of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. The graphics and video clips are clear. With the different modes of accessing the comprehensive content, this CD-ROM is helpful for in-training or practicing clinicians and surgeons.
