    I Also Recommend:

    Start using right away!

I was introduced to this book by a colleague of mine and could not put it down. It has completely charged my classroom atmosphere with excitement, anticipation, and engagement. My kids (3rd graders) love the characters so much they come to school dressed up as them!
This is a great starting point for beginning teachers and a great jumping off point for veterans. I would recommend this no matter where you are in your teaching career or what your teaching style is. Ockzus makes these reading strategies fun, engaging, and concrete. I pair this book with Comprehension Connections to build a solid foundation for the big six reading strategies (Monitor/Clarify, Question, Predict/infer, Summarize/Synthesize, Evaluate, and Making Connections). She includes a DVD of a few of her lessons as well as repoducible student graphic organizers and classroom posters.
It's a quick read with lesson plans and great ideas that you can start implementing in your classroom without a penny spent, minimal preperation, and before you're even done reading! Enjoy these characters with your students and watch them soar as readers!
