Overview

Today's dental practice requires an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the knowledge, skills, and experience of all the disciplines of dentistry and its associated fields into comprehensive treatment to maximize results. Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy presents, for the first time, the philosophy and methodology needed to blend a diverse group of professionals into a cohesive team. Complex and rapid scientific and technological advances have made it difficult for dental practitioners to stay current in one field, let alone more than one. An interdisciplinary approach is necessary for best utilizing new and existing techniques to decrease practitioner frustration and increase patient benefits. Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy presents many cases in which an interdisciplinary approach provided the best possible solutions for both simple and complex dentofacial problems. Thus, it serves as a comprehensive reference for interdisciplinary team members. It shows how to set up and coordinate team therapy, using the latest advances in dental techniques and materials to greatest advantage, and how team members can communicate most effectively with each other, as well as with their patients.

The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Dimitris Antoniou, DDS, MS (University of Chicago Medical Center)
Description: In this book, the author presents extensive numbers of clinical cases and examples illustrating the concepts, benefits, and results of interdisciplinary dentofacial therapy (IDT).
Purpose: The purpose is to present the philosophy and methodology needed to enable a group of professionals to cooperate as a cohesive team. No other text has presented total and equal integration of all disciplines in dentistry.
Audience: Every possible member of an IDT team (orthodontist, pedodontist, oral surgeon, periodontist, prosthodontist, endodontist, restorative dentist, lab technician, etc.) could benefit from this book.
Features: The overall appearance of the book is very good. The reader can find excellent quality of colored illustrations along with very informative tables.
Assessment: Extensive information about the IDT approach is available, including preliminary therapy, diagnosis, treatment planning, definitive therapy, and maintenance. Also there is a separate chapter about the complexity and difficulty in developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary team. For a team like this, the philosophy and methodology necessary to establish and manage the ideal approach to dentofacial therapy is described. This book should be read by any dentist who is interested in improving the quality of patient care using the IDT concept.
